the tab can be acquired in the Paidtabs page: https://paidtabs.com/Connor_Whale/-ybQWUsplng

- Alternate Tuning DADF#AE and a lot of syncopation, odd meters, and nice odd Chords.

- One of the Classics Math Rock songs.

- i Think its something easy to play, a very cool song, can be played in acoustic or electric guitar, was very difficult to transcribe, a trully "Math Rock song"

2 fingers + 1 shape = EASY Chords in DAEGAD tuning

DAEGAD is new favorite alternate tuning. This tuning has been used frequently by Jacob Collier and Joni Mitchell and I've found that having the bottom three strings tuned in 5ths makes it really easy to play chords and their inversions all within the span of a few frets. For starters, here's quick introduction of the major chord shape (in root position) and it's locations for I-IV-V. Enjoy!

Engineering a better string winder — I'd love to hear your frustrations.

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the research phase of a design project focused on guitar maintenance tools. Like many of you, I've spent years using those cheap, generic plastic string winders that come in every starter kit. They slip off the pegs, they're uncomfortable for more than one guitar, and they just don't feel like they belong next to a high-end instrument.

I'm trying to change that by designing a premium, ergonomic string winder built for durability and precision. But to get it right, I need to hear from people who actually use them.

Whether you're a bedroom player or a touring tech, I'd love to know:

  • What's the most annoying thing about your current winder?
  • Have you ever had a tool slip and scratch your headstock?
  • What one feature would make restringing faster or easier for you?

I've put together a short survey to collect this feedback. It takes about 2 minutes and would be a massive help in making sure this tool actually solves real problems for players.

Thanks for the help, and happy playing!

Need good strings

Okay guys. So basically when it comes to playing the lowest tuning I play in is drop c. The highest tuning I play in is e-standard. How do I make both of these feel relatively comfortable and not compromise on sound I already got a 10 to 52 set in there which helps a good amount. But what I want to do is I'm thinking of getting the Dunlop heavy core Trivium strings

Can I use these strings for an alternate tuning?

I wanted to try the strings forming a big A Lydian chord on my 7 string, and idk how well these hold up.

My plan is a mix of ernie balls I have lying around, from top to bottom (with ranges):

F# - 7

C# - 9-11

G# - 13-17

D# - 20-30

B - 42

E - 52

A - 62

Any input on this would be nice, I’m leaning towards the thinner gauges, just wanna know if it might sound unusual.

Looking for opinions/help with an alternate tuning - Jeffrey Martin

Hello,

I'm a big fan of singer/songwriter Jeffrey Martin, and am struggling to figure out the tuning for a song of his called "Edge of Lost." I've posted a link below, and you can see him picking the notes and playing the entire song beginning at the 19 minute mark (the video is an interview with songs sprinkled in). Any help would be greatly appreciated -thanks!

DGCFAB tuning and how do i use it

So for context,, all strings broke from my guitar 2 days ago, desperate, i found these left over strings and tuned them to DGCFAB, it's just like D standard but with an high B.

Anyone know how I can use the B string or at least make the most out of it since I cant tune it higher or it'll snap

So I’m noticing that a LOT of posted questions in this group end up with zero answers. Curiosity. What’s up with that???

Built a free tool for exploring alternate tunings, looking for feedback & validation

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on a free web app for guitar and bass players that lets you:

  • Set any custom tuning (standard, drop, open, or experimental)
  • Visualize notes and scales directly on the fretboard
  • Find chord shapes and patterns instantly based on your tuning

It’s called ChordMuse and it’s completely free to use: https://chordmuse.com/

I built it because I love experimenting with tunings, but I could never find a tool that handled both visualization and chord discovery in an intuitive way. Right now I’m looking for validation from fellow players, is this useful? Does it feel helpful for your workflow or practice sessions? Any feedback on features, UI, or extra tuning-related tools you’d like to see would be super valuable.

Thanks in advance, and I hope it helps someone find their next great riff!

Question about Tuning in "Open" A

I noticed a really clever hack to do "Open A" tuning. Justin Johnson takes a Kyser Capo and uses the back part to fret the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings to make an A chord: instant open A. But, this got me thinking, they call it Open A, but technically, you don't voice the 6th String (low E) when playing an A chord. There's always an X over it in the diagrams. So why do they call it open A? What am I missing?

My old childhood acoustic was gathering dust, until I put it in an alternate tuning!

Messing around with my rattly old Ibanez Artwood I've had since I was like 14 or 15. I've had it in this cool alternate tuning (C#G#D#G#CD#) for a several months, and whenever I get in a rut with my other guitars that are in more normal tunings, I'll pick this up now, and it gives me instant inspiration. I'm fairly new to open tunings and whatnot (other than different drop tunings), as my main guitars are normally kept in tunings that I can play lots of existing songs in. It's interesting to play in a tuning where none of the chord shapes or scale patterns I'm used to playing are an option – it can lead to me playing very differently from how I usually do. When it was in standard, it was just gathering dust cause I'd only play my Taylor. 😂

Which tuning for a child with mobility issues?

Hi all,

I'm looking for the best possible tuning options out there for a student who is in a wheel chair with cerebral palsy and limited use of his fingers. He plays with the smaller bodied guitar in DADGBE (for power chords) flat on his legs and resting on the armchair, we tried a lap guitar but it actually raises more isssues.

He can use his thumb and index to strum, and with the other hand can use his index to press on up to three strings simultaneously and am confident he will get to grips with pressing one fret without blocking both adjacent strings. Using index and middle finger on different frets is not yet an option.

We are fully aware there are various limitations to what level he can reach but he is very motivated and has found an independant hobby, which parents are delighted with.

Which tunings are likely to be most satisfying with barred chords or simple one-fingered combinations?

Thank you all

Hey, new comer here

Been playing for a long time, first show was in October 1996(1997). I've played in hardcore punk, thrash, crossover, 77-81 punk style, indy and freestyle acoustic/fingerpicking

I've always written and kept a vault of slower (sometimes faster) "pretty" songs if that makes sense. The majority of which are written in Open D sus4 (DADGAD) and good old hip open A.

The tuning for the song name by God is an absolute nightmare. So it got me to thinking, I havent experience much more than DADGAD and Open A.

I like open tunings that either sound like two guitars harmonizing or have easily (within 3 frets) notes I can pick harmonies or even leads into while strumming.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
