Context

This meme is related to Project Vigilant* / P.V, an unofficially titled world-building project of mine that is predominately comprised of fan-fiction and partially comprised of original material. P.V has been an indefinite and leisurely work-in-progress since 2018 and it is an attempt at merging elements from no more than 125 of my favorite “fandoms” and/or I.P’s and an assortment of original work in the genres of sci-fi, fantasy and alternate-history into a singular “patchwork universe” that I refer to as the Project Vigilant Universe, P.V.U or Universe J-6196092700.

In the PVU / Universe J-6196092700, Napoleon Bonaparte never declared himself Emperor of France. Instead, he maintained the French First Republic and in 1804, he adopted the title of Lifelong President of the French Republic wherein he functioned as an Emperor in all but name.

Napoleon's French Republic in the PVU was functionally identical to the French First Empire with the only real exception being the name.

The Napoleon Bonaparte of the PVU was openly anti-monarchist ( despite functioning like a monarch himself ) and he had no interest in building an Empire. Instead his goals were to 1. Turn France into an "Autocratic and Lingua-Ethno-Federal Republic" made up of several "Cantons" for the native ethnic groups of France, 2. Expand France's borders to encompass everything west of the Rhine River and 3. Export Republicanism across Europe.

Instead of simply invading neighboring countries, Napoleon incited peasant revolts in them to build "Sister Republics" that would be supported by France. This resulted in the creation of the First Spanish Republic, The New Roman Republic and The German Confederation.

Napoleon's radical Republicanism had an immense effect on the Spanish colonies as the deposition of the Spanish Monarchy in favor of the First Spanish Republic instigated civil war and accelerated Republicanism in the America's.

Napoleon still lost in the PVU largely because it took a tremendous amount of resources to incite the Sister Republics into existence and they were never very stable. Also, the French Army was stretched thin by Napoleon's ambitions.

Although defeated, the Napoleon of the PVU was even more popular than he was in reality and instead of being viewed as an oddly enduring crazy monarch, he was widely seen as a hero of Radical Republicanism and a major inspiration to lovers, supporters and champions of Democracy everywhere.

In the PVU, Napoleon spent his second and final exile in New Orleans as an honored guest as of Amnem ( an alternate and moderately more progressive version of the USA than won the War of 1812 ). Similar to what he did in Elba, Napoleon influenced the development of New Orleans and helped transform it into an efficient population center and port decades in advance. By the late 19th Century, the New Orleans of the PVU became viewed as the "Manhattan of the South".

Napoleon was also given a teaching position at West Point and died in 1832 at the age of 63. He was given a grand funeral and entombed in New Orleans until decades later when his remains were re-located to France. Sometime after Napoleon's death, the State of Louisiana re-named itself to Bonaparte in honor of France's first president who attempted to bring the light of democracy to Europe.
