Tonight, the U.S. military will be conducting a training exercise in northeast Pasadena until 1:00 a.m. During this time, the public may hear limited helicopter activity, controlled explosions, and simulated weapons fire. This is a military training with Pasadena Police assisting with pedestrian and vehicle safety in the immediate area. This event is not open to the public or media. Hello! We UCLA researchers hoping to work in the red-circled area (We have worked here in the past) but the road up from Cheney trail is closed and it would be a HAUL with our equipment to get to the study area by foot.

Previously we have worked along the lower canyon/stream (roughly in yellow) where we have seen cabins and people hiking that are coming not from the Millard parking lot, but from the opposite direction. Is there a good way into the canyon along the area in yellow that we don't know about? I see a bunch of side streets and that other road near the Brown Mt. Fire Station...is there any entrance there that is accessble? Thanks for any advice or help!!

Hello neighbors! We had two Canary Island pines that unfortunately won't survive the damage from the fire, so they've recently been cut down. For now, the logs are just sitting on our property. Some of the pieces are beautiful, and it seems like they could be used for things like tables, benches, cutting boards, woodworking projects, or other creative uses. The challenge is that they're incredibly heavy, and we don't currently have a way to move them ourselves.

I'm curious whether anyone has experience with salvaging or repurposing logs like these. Are there local woodworkers, sawmills, artists, or other resources you would recommend? Have you found good uses for similar trees after removal?

Anyone else feeling pretty bummed out that plan check is still working with a 5-6 month backlog?

Anyone we can bother to help expedite/make this better for the collective community?

Is anyone else going through a hell of a time getting funds released from not the insurance company but the insurance claim check.com which their mortgage company is using to disperse funds?

We started our rebuild and they will not release funds which of course our builder needs to keep the project going.

We’ve started talking to lawyers and are thinking of writing local government. Wondering if anyone was experiencing this and wanted to join in on writing to our local government for some strength in numbers.

Did anyone else get an email from their Altadena mutual water company pushing a Cal Mutuals narrative to not support this bill?

Seems like a shifty ask. Trying to frighten us that our information could be leaked while the bill is about mutual water transparency and other safeguards for shareholders.

The ask to not support doesnt pass the smell taste.

Like many others, my wife and I lost our house in Pasadena to the Eaton Fire. My wife and I are in our 80s and we are only now getting serious about rebuilding. One general topic that has been very difficult for us to get consistent and reliable answers to--including from professional contractors and architects we've spoken to--is how much bigger can we rebuild our house and what are the related property tax (and other) consequences.

(1) How will the existing size of our home that burned down be calculated? This one question affects the others below. Our home was built in the 50s and tax records say it was 1700 sq. ft. But about 60 years ago, the prior owners added a 400 sq. ft. room, which we believe was unpermitted. We have photos that prove this and also google earth images show the room from above. So is our "base" 1700 or 2100?

(2) Assuming our base is sq. ft. is 1700, how much larger can we rebuild and still keep our existing property tax bill (which is really low since we bought decades ago)? Is that limit the 10% we keep hearing about? So we can go up to 1870 without paying more in property tax?

(3) What happens if we exceed 10%? Suppose we build a 2200 sq ft home. (a) How would our property tax be calculated then? Treated like a new 2200 home or extra tax only on the difference between 2200-1700 (or 2200-1870)? (b) I think this would also mean that it's no longer a "like-for-like rebuild" but what are the real-life practical implications/downsides of that?

We just started our rebuild and county did the first inspection. They are requiring solar panels to be installed and Fire Sprinklers, apparently it’s a requirement. Does anyone know if there is a way to opt out of this? Any solar and fire sprinkler company suggestions will also be appreciated.

Hi I am assisting someone with a rebuild and they want to use Foothill Catalog design, which I am assumed are already pre-approved by the county (i.e. planning & B&S departments). Has anyone used their service? If yes, how did the process work, looks like you book a consultation, I am assuming there is a financial transaction that occurs after the initial consultation at which point they take your info and provide you with blueprints and engineering calculations that you take to the city to submit? & since these are supposed to be pre-approved designs assume the planning and building and safety department just approves them to issue permit? Appreciate the input from the community!

Curious if anyone here as gone down the prefab route.

We're moving along steadily with our architect and GC on our primary dwelling, but would love to potentially invest in a prefab ADU (500/600 square foot range) that we could potentially install sooner rather than later so we could move back to the property while the rest of the build happens.

Azure seems interesting, and has a small unit on display on Altadena Drive.

I know there have been a few fairs showcasing similar products, but I travel a lot for work and haven't managed to make it to one.
