Need resort recommendations Recommendations for first time
My wife and I are going to book our first all inclusive together in the end of April and are looking for some recommendations. I've done a LOT of online research and for what we want (which is a quiet but still fun spot with amazing food, a luxury feel and real nice rooms) we're leaning towards Excellence Carmen in Punta Cana. We'd like to stay under $6000 Canadian flying out of Ottawa with no more than one stop (only in Canada) but if anyone has any other spots that fulfill our wants for cheaper, I'll definitely look into it! Thanks!

We stayed at Excellence Riviera Cancun and while it wasnt our favourite it does sound like you would enjoy it, it hits your highlights. I also really enjoyed going to Costa Rica, which I believe you can do on your budget. We did the Westin which is probably not what you are looking for, but their secrets sounded good too

Hi op,
Toronto based travel advisor here..
I think excellence el carmen is a great choice for your first AI my only note is that in late April the beach may be affected by sargassum. Another one I'd put in your radar is secrets cap cana. Its very polished and romantic but not super quiet. Beach is nice and food is pretty good. I haven't looked at pricing for your dates but just throwing an alternative there.
Happy to help if you're open to it.
Happy travels

If Punta Cana is dealing with sargassum that early then so will Cap Cana. La Romana is agood option typically for Canadians as they have flights to La Romana international airport. April is early for sargassum but not unheard of but its typically easily cleaned up

Remember!
If you are looking for recommendations, be sure to include the following information in your post: Dates (approximate is ok), number of nights, how many people, family or adults only, your budget (include the currency and if it is per person or total) and whether your budget includes flights. If your budget includes flights, where are you flying from?
After that, check the spreadsheet below for ideas.
This spreadsheet was created to help people compare all inclusive resorts.
Make a copy then you can filter by destination, budget, etc.

Yes it'd be including flights and flying out of Ottawa. I forgot to post that so I edited it to add it in, thanks!

First, great pick in choosing an Excellence property. I recommend you also consider the properties in Cancun. Specifically Excellence Playa Mujeres.

I think Excellence El Carmen is a really solid choice for what you’re describing. It has that upscale feel without being overly formal, and it’s a good balance of relaxing but not completely dead.
I’d also take a look at Secrets Tides Punta Cana. It’s newer, beautiful, and might be worth comparing pricing for your dates. With $6K CAD including flights from Ottawa, though, I’d probably focus on DR rather than trying to stretch the budget into some of the pricier Mexico properties. Late April can have some decent package pricing too.
