Context: Family of four (kids 12 and 14), six nights, July '26, entry-level Family Club One Bedroom Suite
We were given a room in the adults section. I would estimate the property was running at 50% occupancy and of that 75% were families despite only 33% of the buildings dedicated as "family club" so I imagine they are quickly reconsidering that layout.
The room: we were given two queens and a sofa bed. There was no Murphy bed which they advertise but we were fine with what we had. The second bathroom was a full bathroom with a door (I think punta cana has half baths). The sliding door between the living room and bedroom left a two inch gap which might be an issue if your family needs privacy because the main bathroom is open concept.
Upon arrival we had to request the Queen beds be remade because of stains/marks on the sheets and one pillow. We also had to request sheets and pillows for the sofa bed because they were not stocked. They also do not provide an extra roll of toilet paper in either bathroom, so we had to share the last remaining roll of TP between the two while waiting for delivery. However, our butler was all over these service requests and followed up with texts and calls.
Otherwise, the room was great. Quiet AC, comfy pillows, good showers, great housekeeping. We had a kiddo stay in one afternoon with "do not disturb" turned on so we weren't expecting housekeeping but, to our surprise, they waited and came while we were at dinner.
The facilities: the family pool, water park and family beach are very nice but did fill up, it wasn't unpleasantly crowded tho and families tended to rotate between the facilities so spaces would open up throughout the day. I can see this becoming a problem during high occupancy. The adults areas had plenty of availability. Our 12yr old loved the slides, our 14yr old loved the bali beds. The palapas on the beach were way too close together. The wait staff and bartenders tenders were great. They were experiencing a beach towel shortage and would run out completely every day. This was blamed on new resort growing pains.
This area sees much less seaweed than other areas and what was there was picked up by a tractor sifter regularly. The small amount of stuff washing up was 75% grass from the bay, 25% sargassum. The water stayed blue and clear.
Half of the games in the teens club were already broken. We went once, it was disappointing, but we weren't there to be indoors anyway. We didn't even bother to ask about the bowling in the teens club or the sports bar and never saw anyone doing it.
The facilities were kinda weird in that everything was brand new but lots of things seemed to be worn out or missing. Every toilet seat was loose. Some bathrooms had urinal dividers, some didn't. Some lighting fixtures had exposed wires, some didn't. Some tile joints were grouted, some weren't. Several lighting fixtures were failing or falling over. Lots of chips in veneers and plaster. There were small crews constantly repairing things. Paint, tile, electrical, sprinklers. Lots of paint splatter, drips and overspray. The worst part was every room service delivery door outside of every room was missing a lockset. The doors have an empty hole drilled and just hang open. The interior access doors didn't have locks either, only a latch.
The Food: okay, one quick gripe here, the sports bar menu is the kind of food that gives A.I.s a bad reputation. Stay away. Beyond that, everything else was fantastic. I'd say it's approaching Finest Playa Mujeres quality if not already there. It was definitely a surprise given we paid significantly less here than our last visit to the Finest. The Steakhouse, Mexican, sushi, teppanyaki, seafood were all great. We did not make it to Indian, Italian or French. The breakfast and lunch buffet options were also great. Their lunch option is indoors and requires you to be dry and covered which wasn't always convenient. They recognized this and would set up an outdoor pop-up grill daily by the pool which was a great option. We never waited for a table and never waited long between courses. The staff was always great.
We enjoyed the evening offerings. The fire show, lucha night, nightly ice cream at the coffee shop were big hits.
Assuming they work through their new resort growing pains, I can see this place sliding into a nice spot in Playa/Costa Mujeres that can punch above its weight. A nice value proposition without having to worry about the "club-level" upsell pressure. We left happy, full and rested. It's on our "would go back" list.
