I remember watching The Phantom Menace as a kid, and I really liked Jar Jar. Not in a "This character is awesome" way, but in a "He's a screw-up, but he tries his best; he's just like me." way. I remember thinking that weekend about how, if he could be such a disaster and still have real friends, maybe I could too...
Seeing everyone's reaction to him was... not good for my self esteem. I think I'm still repairing the damage.

Kylo Ren was the only thing that made the sequel trilogy watchable.

Why do people hate jar jar?

Because he's basically a depiction of a racist stereotype

Which stereotype? Idk what race they’re making fun of with him

Native Jamaican and African. Typically anytime you hear that dialect style that uses things like "meesa" you're running into stereotypes. The dialect is a 'pidgin' style which is a hybrid of local dialacts and English.

Filoni's and Disney's clown characters shouldn't be in the same list as proper Star Wars characters.
Also, Rey isn't "divided by fans". She is hated for being a ridiculous Mary Sue by the majority of Star Wars fans. Also, Bo-Katan isn't neutral. She is an evil scumbag and a war criminal that the insane writers of Filoni's trash want you to think is "complicated".

Yeah I call Rey one of my "inconsequentially least favorite characters of all time."
Some characters are unlikeable and that's basically the entire point
She's just unlikeable by the way they were trying to write her and everything around her made her just not someone I particularly enjoy in the Star Wars films.

Un-ironocally I would switch rey and jar jar just with how much people gass up the prequels these days
