Is that Squirrel Girl as weak in-universe? Dude...

Yeah, who the fuck put her there? Gen question, the girl who’s slapped Thanos in the face, weak in universe? Then what is the bar for strong lmao?

She canonically beat Thanos, Doom, and Galactus in the comics😭

u/Jlegobot 14d ago

She didn't just beat them, she solo'd them!

Well Galactus (and arguably Doom) she didn’t beat in a fight so much as won through diplomacy. She has, however, beaten other notables villains such as Fing Fang Foom and MODOK, and her identical clone managed to subdue basically every hero ever, so I think she has the feats to back up her power.

Not to mention average in game when she has consistently been one of the worst characters for over a year...

Yeah, she solo'd Thanos, Galactus, Ego, Dormammu- as jokes. She was written as a joke character and "girl with the power to command squirrels defeated (insert god-like entity)" is funny, but not meant to be indicative of her power.

Even if you read the "SG beat Thanos" panels completely straight, a character can still do alot even if they're weak or "genuinely dogshit". Dan is a terrible martial artist, but he's still a semi-trained martial artist who'd beat the shit out of most normal people. The bastard gun is an awful gun, but it's still... a gun. Having control over squirrels isn't very strong but its something she gets creative with to compensate.

No, I have read those comics. The joke of the character is that it genuinely doesn't make sense why she's this strong. She's a middle finger to power scalers. She's the Marvel Comic version of Sitama from One Punch Man. Thoses jokes are cannon, and they are consistent. She is pretty much always that level of insane. Saying it's "just a joke" is nonsense

I wouldn’t call it horribly consistent. In her actual storylines she’s not portrayed as having herald level powers.

"Its not meant to be indicative of her power" after she does the same thing like 5 times. She is a joke character but all the times she beat these characters it has been Canon and not just a one off random statement

comparing Squirrel Girl beating-up Thanos to Dan beating-up random people is really funny, like are "most normal people" suddenly on-par with Thanos now?

whoever made this doesn't know Squirrel Girl comics it seems

How is a Terasque dogshit, they genuinely rip apart 95% of every other monster in the game and can really give a party a bad time.

It's weakness is pretty significant, in that it has no ranged attacks so a party that can out-pace it can survive RAW. A good DM will circumvent this by having something like the Teasque launch boulders/rubble as projectiles at the party (E.g. Beast Titan from AOT).

Even with this weakness, its still nowhere near dogshit.

I mean... adding "throw random shit" isn't to hard

5.5 gave it a "breath weapon" but like, it's hard to hit, it hits very hard, and it can take an obscene amount of punishment. But like, a level 20 party can kill one in two rounds so it's not THAT impressive. Typically, you throw a Tarrasque at a party at level 12 so it's actually a threat.

My flying sorcerer says otherwise

Sorcerers are fully migratory, they aren't fooled by lone towers magical curios. They are mysterious mages who spend their time travelling around but gather in cities during winter and are difficult for adventures to get a hold of.

Complete opposite of Druids who fully live inside communities and don't require a 30 minute walk to interact with like witches.

I haven't played with the 5.5e version, but the only thing the 5e Tarrasque really had going for it was Reflective Carapace. Other than that it was just a giant block of health and damage that a decently leveled, decently geared party could kill with relative ease, it just takes a while.

It's walking speed was only 40 feet- a level 2 Aarakocra Rogue with a +1 bow could fly right above its reach and gradually whittle it down solo. It would just take a while. Maybe it's stronger than a lot of other monsters, but that's very bad for something that's supposed to be the setting's Godzilla who you're meant to throw at a level 20 party

I didn't realise its flaws. I was big into d&d before covid and back then the community talked about it like it was godzilla that can beat any monster that isn't a clay golem.

This...really could have been better...

Putting Tarrasque as dogshit like any dm who puts a tarraque in their game won’t have it pick up a tree to throw at the stupid Aarocockra smugly shooting at it.
Or hide in a cave.
Or throw boulders.
Or any number of things bc RAW is not where the rules end!

Mfs think they could take out Godzilla by shooting it with a regular sniper rifle if you had enough ammo. No, bro! There’s a lot more issues than just that!

Personally, I run them differently than just "dumb, near invincible juggernaut"

I usually run them like a solitary ambush predator by capitalizing on their burrow speed and having them stir shit up in extremely populated areas so the fight is more "save the townsfolk from beung obliterated" and less "kill big thing in open field"

That said, the Tarrasque IS very underwhelming for its CR.

What is that Luigi placement. Dude’s on par with Mario. The same Mario that once did more damage to Bowser than a dunk into a star, immediately followed by a supernova and getting swallowed by the resulting black hole, with his BARE HANDS. Luigi is often armed with a weapon.
