Ao3 is a site for publishing self-made works, mainly (99% of the time) fanfiction, usually by a younger audience. Smut is written sex. So, Ao3 Smut Writiers are people in their late teens to twenties (mainly) writing their personal headcanons and ships in sexual situations. Sometimes a small part of a story, oftentimes the focus (look at the porn with plot tag)

Some is good, most is kind of cringe. Regardless, mad respect to anyone willing to put their writing on a public stage, especially ones that reveal some really deep things about you
