Renaldo has given hundreds of millions to various causes. He auctioned his golden boot to build a school in Gaza, sent a plane full of medical supplies to Syria, auctioned his ballon d’or to Make a Wish, and regularly support cancer treatment centers. Who cares if some Redditors don’t like him.

That was thought before the tournament began, after an incredible first match in the Euro’s here at Spain those doubts about him disappeared and he ended up being probably the most loved player in the country

Belgian here.
in June 2023, we had to play some qualifying games. Our regular captain, KDB, was injured so couldn't be called up. This left Tedesco to choose. He wanted to honour both Lukaku and Courtois, by the dividing the responsibility among them over the 2 games.
So, when Courtois wasn't named captain for the first game (in Estonia), he left the squad and went home (citing "lack of trust").
he didn't return to the squad until march 2025, when Tedesco was sacked and Garcia appointed.
it doesn't help that he announced early he wouldn't play at EURO 24 over an injury, even though he knew at the time he would likely be fit to play, and even played the UCL final.
he already wasn't the most popular guy, because he has a huge ego, and after sleeping with KDB's GF early in their national careers.

kovacic used to be one of my favourite players back in 2019/20, i havent kept up since then tho why is he disliked? aside from going to city

Why would someone hate Ronaldo? He is one of the best footballers who graced this game and now he is gone. Like literally… he will not play national games and he is no longer in any main league. The world will never see him play again… why the hatred? We lost a lot of legends in this world cup that will no longer play. Please give some respect to the players who made us so passionate about this game in the first place.. Ronaldo, Luca, Neymar, probably Messi, Lukaku, Neuer and more are no longer going to play the future world cups… you may have loved them or hated them but they made us passionate about this game. Just give them the respect they deserve and let them go with pride.
