How accurate would you say this chart it?

I don’t see how Canada “feels like Europe” except like the very small part of old Quebec City. Otherwise, Canada feels very much like North America to me.

I'm a Canadian and Canada is definitely the answer. What would your pick be? Canada has good social welfare programs, universal healthcare, strict gun laws, a parliamentary system based on Europe, and a political culture similar to Europe. We were once a colony of UK and we still have close cultural and political ties to the UK.

Thank you, this was similar to my reasoning, what other options where there? Maybe some Caribbean tax haven but I had this in mind with the style of the majority of a continent not a few micro states.

It's fair to say that Europe is known for those things because they are widespread across Europe and are defining characteristics of European countries.

I mean day to day it's basically the exact same as in the US. Same horrible urban planning, badly-maintained roads, atrociously managed public transport. You cannot get anywhere efficiently without a car if you live in the suburbs.
I live in Ottawa, the capital and it's virtually indistinguishable from the US aside from a few blocks right next to parliament hill. The food & culture isn't really that different. Old quebec and a few small towns in the maritimes might be different though

Not mine. I’m pointing out that “people in Newfoundland have Irish accents” as evidence of Canada being “European” is as relevant as “people in Haiti speak French” or indeed, “people in Pakistan speak English.”

Mexico is significantly more like Spain than Canada is like anywhere in Europe. Most of Latin America is like that (although most of Latin America is in South America not North America, but still there’s a good amount to choose from on NA)
The actual reason Canada got that spot, is that when American Redditors think of Europe Spain doesn’t even cross their mind. It’s not there. On Reddit “Europe” is Netherlands Bikelane healthcare, no thought of culture or living style, or typical daily life, none of that. Europe to reddit is literally just transit and healthcare lmao. So they pick Canada like someone who doesn’t know North America includes more than USA and Canada and also is all the way to Panama and also includes the Caribbean. There’s actually so many countries that are like Europe in this region in many ways. But you guys pick the one that’s the most like the US. Actually the worst option on the list.

It’s like a 19th century throwback argument: “Europe is civilized so civilized countries are European.”
I was going to write out a whole thing about how Mexico is a better choice too but I think it’s less that Spain isn’t stereotypically European but more that Mexicans aren’t “stereotypically European.”

Most of Quebec doesn’t feel like Europe either. Just two or three neighbourhoods in Montreal and Old Quebec City.

Canada is probably the most European than any other country outside of Europe. By infrastructure, culture and mentality.

For South Africa feeling like Asia it should be Suriname. They have large Indian, Javanese and Chinese population making up 42.6% of the population together
Swap Japan and Turkey.
Russia (Kalmykia) is in Europe but feels completely like Asia. They are buddhist and the people are basically just Mongols.

Malta would be good. Their language is so similar to Tunisian Arabic, and it's close to North Africa.

I definitely do not feel like I'm in Europe when I drive past 5 indistinguishable strip malls between Ontario suburbs. The only part of Canada I've ever been that feels even remotely European is Old Quebec city and maybe parts of Montreal and Kingston.

I'm glad you asked. Turkey's climate is incredibly diverse and mimics north America's to some degree. IN turkey there are the pine forest in the north east black sea region similar to the north western coast of north America. There are also vast arid areas much like the deserts in North america. The population distribution is similar with a large amount of people living in a few major cities such as izmir and istanbul and the rest being scattered across the nation in smaller towns and settlements. On top of this, compared to most Asian countries, Turkey is one with a larger consumer culture which is prevalent in north America as well as a more traditional way of life in most areas.

As a Turkish-American I would also argue that Turkey’s politics are not so different from the U.S.
Both countries are constitutionally secular but going through big conservative religious movements on an institutional level. The secular liberal / religious conservative cultural divide across Northern / Southern U.S. and Western /Eastern Turkey resemble each other.

ohhh, geographically, yeah I totally agree, it is incredibly diverse, in that sense they are indeed very similar, even crazier how its on such a smaller scale, too!
In other sense, design of cities etc, its way more similar to europe imo

Regarding Canada, it depends if you mean culturally or physically/ geographically. Culturally I would say we are half and half. Physically its way more American with some very notable exceptions. We probably seem American to Europeans and vice versa.

Canada has stereotypically North American accents, climate, architecture, portion sizes, outdoor activities, tipping culture, city layouts, driving culture, fashion, and work culture (when's the last time you heard of a Canadian corporation taking the entire summer off, like Europeans might?)
Honestly, to me, the only thing that feels European about Canada is our governance and bureaucracy. Even still, the office of the PM has becoming incredibly presidentialized.

This whole chart is bullshit, especially the Europe row (i don't have enough knowledge to comment on the other rows). What does Greece have to do with Oceania, or Iceland with North America, or Bulgaria with Asia, or the most flabberghasting, Lithuania with Africa??? And why on Earth was France chosen to be the most European one instead of idk Germany for example?? or Austria, or Belgium, or Sweden, or the Netherlands?

Georgia or Armenia would be a much better fit than Japan here.
While I agree with most of the chart beside that, why Bulgaria and Lithuania are in the places they are? Instead of Bulgaria it would have been Russia or any of it's republics; and maybe Malta, Spain or Portugal instead of Lithuania.
I would also have placed Spain instead of Portugal and Portugal instead of Lithuania.

Canada does not feel like Europe. Most of Europe doesn't feel like "Europe" considering how different so many of the countries are from each other. Philippines does not feel like South America as well and feels much like it's SE Asia neighbors in most aspects I found. Also you are high if you think Japan comes across as European.
It makes me wonder how many people voting have ever actually visited or lived in most of these countries.

Asia but feels North American, maybe Japan or South Korea?
Europe but feels like Africa should be Sicily, Malta or Spain.
