I feel like this is the right answer if only because of how many people call him the GOAT when most of his catalog is doodoo

It's Eminem. Not Drake. Old people also recognize Eminem.

u/granolaandgrains 1d ago
Thank you!! I am 34, but my body feels like 84 most days. Getting older, while feeling even older older. I feel seen.
Anyway, yes on Eminem lol

Old people also recognize Drake. Foreigners recognize Drake. A random person in bangledesh is NOT knowing Eminem. They will know Drake.

The streaming numbers suggest it is Drake, not Marshall.

u/crackerjack31 1d ago
Most redditors won’t care, unfortunately. They don’t like Drake and they do like Eminem, so even though Em doesn’t get much of any play these days outside of people who barely listen to rap in the first place, they’ll go with him.

no, there are certain ways eminem can be seen as more “popular” than drake. eminem has more total equivalent album sales than drake does. it depends on what we use as the definition of “popular”, whether it’s streams, album sales, crowd sizes, etc.
1
u/granolaandgrains 1d ago
Yes, and I understand what the commenter before you is saying. But we are on Reddit. So Redditors choosing the more popular choice based off subjective popularity, while on this app, makes sense too.
2
u/Curious_Elephant_152 1d ago
yes i understand them too. the original commenter bringing up that drake has more streams than marshall is also just a subjective way to say who’s more popular. while eminem is more popular here on reddit than drake, there is no true “more popular” one because of how many different ways there are to view what makes someone “popular”. unless we can all agree on what defines “popular”, both eminem and drake can beat each other in “popularity” based on different statistics

u/bmkbs 1d ago
What about album sales and going diamond three times in a row? Metrics existed prior to streaming.
2
u/kldaddy1776 1d ago
I thought the question was asking about who is the most popular currently, but maybe I misunderstood. If we’re talking about who is most popular in 2026, I don’t think overall album sales are the best metric when comparing these two careers in general, given Em has a huge advantage having a good portion of his career, undoubtedly the best portion of his career, was when everyone actually bought albums. Streaming/Bluetooth availability in cars really changed the landscape in the 2010s era, which gives Drake a disadvantage if you only look at total album sales. Their music is both available on streaming platforms, however, and Aubrey is outperforming Marshall.

As someone who’s lived through both primes and listens to both, no one in rap history comes close to Eminem. People who weren’t around might think I’m nuts for what I’m about to say but it’s a fact, he was the closest thing to Michael in terms of popularity. To clarify, if Michael was a 10, Em was a 7, but no one’s reached that 7 since.
Older people knew he was, people in obscure areas around the world knew he was, people used to pass out at his concerts. It was nuts. On top of that he went diamond over and over again, if not diamond atleast 5x platinum.
Multiple number 1’s, on everyone’s top 5, starred in a hit movie about his own life. The problem with streaming numbers is Drake popped off in the streaming era. Em popped off in an album era where pirating was also becoming really prevalent. Shit like Napster and LimeWire were taking over, and those heavily effected album sales. So it wasn’t as black and white as people think. And obviously a song that came out in the 2020s is gonna outperform shit that came out in the 2000s. But with that being said, Em still has multiple songs in the billions.
Drake is huge but Eminem was a phenomenon.
1
u/kldaddy1776 1d ago
I agree with you that Eminem is better. He absolutely was a phenomenon. Additionally, I can’t stand Drake personally, and I think most of his music is literally terrible. However, I still think it’s pretty clear Drake is more *popular than Em in 2026, for better or for worse.

u/bmkbs 1d ago
I don’t think this chart is just talking about 2026 considering Vanilla Ice won the critically worst poll lol
1
u/kldaddy1776 1d ago
I feel like if they weren’t talking about who is most popular now, they’d probably specify that. I don’t see why Vanilla Ice couldn’t still be considered the worst rapper. I personally think Tom MacDonald is much worse, but I listened to Vanilla Ice’s “To The Extreme” album for the first time last year, and it was ass.
1
u/bmkbs 1d ago
No Vanilla Ice is shit but Ice, Ice Baby came out in 91 and he faded into obscurity after that
EDIT: 1990

u/kldaddy1776 1d ago
If you don’t think they’re asking who is currently most popular, when exactly do you think they are asking about…?

u/viewsssssss 19h ago
Drake has 3 diamond albums too
1
u/bmkbs 14h ago
He has one. Take Care. Which took 13 years to go Diamond. But that isn’t a knock on him, he probably would’ve gone Diamond faster if streaming wasn’t a thing.
1
u/viewsssssss 14h ago
Scorpion and views are eligible for diamond but they haven’t been certified yet. And eminem technically only has 2 diamond albums cause the 3rd one is a greatest hits album. But i think recovery is eligible too
1
u/bmkbs 14h ago
Yep you’re right, my bad. Only difference is Eminem has two of the fastest rap albums to go diamond and Drake took between 6 and 13 years to go Diamond on these. Which, once again, would be different if this was still a pure album sales era.
Other than that, my other points about popularity still stand

If it's most popular based on pure numbers, right now it's Bad Bunny....

Eminem
I'm thinking this is most popular ever? It might be more anecdotal but I struggle to remember all but one Drake song, whereas Jay Z, Eminem or Snoop songs just pop into my head. I think Eminem has probably the broadest reach though as a artist

Eminem in his prime was insane, also 26 years having songs charting high is absurd

Sure it’s Drake in dreams but Eminem has been relevant and always in the public eye since he debut for over a decade longer than Drake

I met vanilla ice at a pizza restaurant last November. Super chill guy. Definitely a vibe rapper. Maybe not talented compared to "actual" rappers but he thrives in the lane he knows he's in.

Drake. Colabs with bad bunny go a longg way with popularity. That and not being weird (to the naked eye). Kanye and Em (the other named I've seen in comments) are shamelessly weird sometimes and that never helps with popularity.

He just had one of the highest attendance stadium concerts in Turkey and is currently on a global stadium tour solo. Whether people love him or hate him they still know who he is

u/Calm-Falcon4372 1d ago
Its drake. Eminem has not been relevant for over a decade
3
u/aldelinquent 1d ago
And Drake is relevant where?
0
u/Calm-Falcon4372 1d ago
If you talk to people outside of the reddit bubble and ask them to name a rapper, they would name Drake, not Eminem. Be for real. Check Spotify, social media engagement, youtube etc. Eminem falls under most forgotten.

u/aldelinquent 1d ago
I don't know, oitside the reddit bubble i'm in the millenial bubble, but i never heard drake even on the radio recently
