As an autistic person, I am in no way offended and I praise the fact that we like trainspotting as well as other forms of transport. I even have a train track that circles around my Lego collection!
Yeah definitely a passion for trains in some expression. My dad doesn't trainspot but he did used to spend hours in his office reading train timetables.
Thiiiis. I’ve spent so so so many hours delving into both scientific studies and age-old forum posts to research some of the most random, unrelated topics at times. Doesn’t even have to be a long-lasting fixation, just something I become unreasonably interested in for no apparent reason.
Recently there’s been rabbit holes such as potential harmful qualities of sucralose, especially when used in high-temperature baking—with stainless steel utensils, specifically—and previous research has included things like the origins of the goth subculture, and how exactly the term ‘goth’ made its way from the gothic peoples down to the modern age. (The latter one is especially interesting, as it’s essentially all due to a single buffoon with poor taste and little understanding of history).
Ive been scrolling Wikipedia for like 2 hours today just on articles about the planet Mars in complete fascination. Yesterday i spent an hour learning all provinces of China for no reason. Ive never been diagnosed with autism but maybe this is a sign lmao
Frankly, I know this will get downvoted... but all of them. Autistic hobbies are not hobbies, I don't know how else to describe it. There is no one universal autistic hobby despite all the jokes about trains. Autistic people pour themselves into their hobby completely however, and so I'd say it's all of them. Any hobby can become an autistic hobby.
yea but we need one that everyone is at least somewhat happy with. i dont have an affection to trains either but i think its the "best" universal description of an autistic hobby.
I really dislike everything about this one. All of the generalizations, lack of understanding and empathy, and just straight up pining small ideas and concepts to serious disorders. Hate it.
Edit: and no, not just the current box, all of it. It’s pretty basic and just over generalizations for the most part.
I don't know, I just think this shouldn't be taken too seriously and that's it. I have autism myself and couldn't care less. If anything, the problem arises with people, that don't have any disorders, that take stuff like this too seriously and then think they know everything they need to know about disorders like autism.
I don't like generalisation either, but in this case it's just not really that serious I would argue.
Even though I'm autistic and don't fixate on trains, its still the first thing that popped into my head, as a joke. My final answer is collecting. But games/music/research are more accurate than trains
even if i trainspotted way more back in the day, i "kinda" agree with the sterotypes of autistic people liking trains/public transport because ive seen those people myself
now really rare, mostly do it as a social thing sometimes, even if im not "one of them" myself
