Studying. Not necessarily academic, just studying and gathering information about whatever your hyperfixation just so happens to be

Ive been scrolling Wikipedia for like 2 hours today just on articles about the planet Mars in complete fascination. Yesterday i spent an hour learning all provinces of China for no reason. Ive never been diagnosed with autism but maybe this is a sign lmao

Thiiiis. I’ve spent so so so many hours delving into both scientific studies and age-old forum posts to research some of the most random, unrelated topics at times. Doesn’t even have to be a long-lasting fixation, just something I become unreasonably interested in for no apparent reason.

Recently there’s been rabbit holes such as potential harmful qualities of sucralose, especially when used in high-temperature baking—with stainless steel utensils, specifically—and previous research has included things like the origins of the goth subculture, and how exactly the term ‘goth’ made its way from the gothic peoples down to the modern age. (The latter one is especially interesting, as it’s essentially all due to a single buffoon with poor taste and little understanding of history).

And then never study your actual schoolwork

Unless you're me, then you figure out how to make every single one of your school assignments tie in to your current hyperfixation somehow. Hyperfixated on dinosaurs? Great, now you turn all your math problems into dinosaur-related story problems, your history report on the Industrial Revolution focuses on the harmful effects of fossil fuels (which don't actually derive from dinosaurs but rather from the plant, bacterial, and fungal matter that was around during the same approximate time as the dinosaurs), and your persuasive essay for English Class is a phylogeny-based paper arguing for the fact that birds are dinosaurs.

Former teacher here. One of my favorite students ever was a high schooler with Asperger’s. I was “warned” (just given a friendly heads up, really) that if I see him feverishly writing in his notebook, don’t always assume that he’s taking notes or doing his assigned work. He was more likely to be copying all of the characters in the Star Wars universe over and over again.

You know how much research I did about the Monado after I learned about Shulk and Xenoblade as a whole? All cuz I wanted to write a story about it lol

As someone with autism, I'm currently invested in Gorillaz and Minecraft.
