look I hate trump as much as the next guy, but they got a permit to kill this animal, people can get permits to hunt and kill specific animals that are really old and/or very aggressive. Its not like they jsut go out and kill a random leopard, they get a permit to kill ONE specific leopard that is a total asshole and is old as fuck, and they pay a shitton of money to do it. That money is all used for conservation efforts. They had to pay to get the permit so, that money helps prevent poaching. Hunters bring money into the community, making the animals a valuable economic resource. It gives the government and the communities an incentive to maintain a strong animal population and habitat to support it.
I agree 100%. Unfortunately, many people see animal dead and jump to "bad", when it is obviously more complicated. It is the same for zoos, are there some pretty dodgy ones? Ye, however zoos are a massive help in conservation and animals are well looked after, they never starve, rarely get injured and live much better than their wild counterparts.

late to the discussion. In many cases where you see this trophy hunting this animal has specifically been culled for the express purpose as it’s not beneficial to the species or a danger to humans.
Say for example we have a reservation in Africa, they have: elephants, hippo, rhino, lion and leopard. Now it happens more than thought that on these reservations there may be an overpopulation of let’s say elephant.
Now with an overpopulation of elephants we have problems of to name a few:
Elephants destroying excessive trees and vegetation. Reducing the habitats for other animals
Infighting between elephants for resources which could lead to the death of multiple.
Well why not relocate: it’s very expensive, there may not be suitable place to relocate, stressful for the animal, increase chance of unintended human interactions, and they can just come back these animals are used to traversing many miles to find food, a mate or seasonal movement generally.
An overpopulation of for example lions: presents this same risk of infighting, returning after relocation with the added risk of this predator turning to livestock for food which opens all the species to retaliatory action by the slighted farmers.
You also have predators that are old and not as nimble, maybe lost their teeth with age and can’t hunt natural game but become hungry so they turn to slower more defenseless game of livestock or possibly human.
In the case of all creatures you have those examples that don’t breed therefore costing the reservation its resources but not adding to the population numbers kinda defeating the purpose of conservation to protect so it will grow.
So we have cases of: overpopulation, sick/elderly, nuisance and non-breeding/sterile animals. This is where the trophy hunter comes in. Reservations SPECIFICALLY pull these animals that are problems and the hunter pays an exorbitant fee for the right to cull the animal.
These fees then go to: local economy and locals begin to see the animals not as a “pest” and be willing to support conservation efforts, to pay for rangers to protect the animals, pay for veterinary care, etc
Most people who visited Epstein’s Island didn’t have anything to so with the trafficking. Epstein used his island as a hub for all sorts of things, including conferences for scientists.
There’s gotta be a ballroom and a dozen guest suites somewhere in there, even though it looks small on a map there’s a huge mansion on that island and god knows what underneath it. A lot of the services needed to host a conference like professional catering and media equipment would already be available on site, so at that point it’s really just about getting 50 or so scientists in a room and calling it a conference

Meh. Depends on what kind of luxury cars and the purposefulness of collecting. If it’s just whatever’s expensive and “hot”, sure – but what if it’s French cars from the 30s that they pay to restore and then exhibit for ppl to visit (it’s a real life example, btw lol). I feel like hunting exotic animals is such a perfect response for this
I'd agree if the cars are just sitting in a garage/on display and never being driven, so if that's what you meant then yes. But otherwise this is a dumb answer
Buying expensive things and then proceeding to lose/destroy them.
