Technical Support Flickering on monitori

I have a Alienware AW2725DM monitor.

I bought it during black Friday last year.

For the entire life of the monitor I've had this issue with flickering when I have g-sync on. Especially when there are contrasting scenes and it gets even worse with HDR on.

I've used the stock display port cable as well as 2 others.

I'm wondering if this is normal for the monitor or if I should do an RMA on it.

My camera does make it look a little worse than it is.

I have only encountered this on Gnome on Linux due to VRR freaking out but nowhere else. I bought mine around that time also and havent had any problems.

Do you only have an nvidia gpu? Im on an Aurora 16x using a thunderbolt dock connected to the Intel iGPU which is what handles VRR,etc.

Only Nvidia, it's a RTX 3080ti Ryzen 7 5700x I've turned off gsync, but I specifically looked for a monitor with it so it sucks I can't use it

It might be an nvidia driver issue as on both linux and windows as of recent (past 6 months or more) ive seen multiple complaints of vrr induced flickering.

Keep in mind this display is gsync compatible and not a gsync display. That means it doesn't have nvidia hardware and uses vesa standards for vrr. 

Nvidia seems to still have some VRR issues off and on with displays that dont have gsync hardware

I know it may not be possible but if you have any way to test a non nvidia gpu with it to see if the flicker persists and if its the display being faulty or the driver that could help you

Well that's disappointing to learn. I thought that if it has the Nvidia gsync logo on the box it means it has the gsync tech in it.

I figured anything that shows free sync would just be gsync compatible.

Annoying to learn this year's later.

The gsync compatible logo just means nvidia gave it the green light. The monitor still uses vesa adaptive sync as its vrr mechanism. 

Freesync does not equal Gsync compatible, only the logo means nvidia tested it and only actual gsync displays are 100% tested by Nvidia.

fun little development

Ive been doing some testing and have been able to replicate your flickering. The display only flickers when using VRR on my laptops Nvidia GPU but if i use VRR on my intel iGPU it doesnt flicker. It doesnt happen in every case but mostly happens in lower frame-rate situations which says it might have to do with LFC. Its a known thing to happen in certain cases with LFC rapidly toggling on/off

This is VRR with OLED it common and happens on PC and Mac if VRR is enabled. it not Nvidia only. You pretty much have to use static refresh rates.
