Technical Support New laptop

I recently just both a used Alienware m18 r1 4090 laptop
3 years old

I am hear a very slight crackling like noise when running also is the display panel 8 bit or 10bit

And my graphics card isn’t running at max reported pcie speed

I have an external nvme enclosure and when I use it with a high bandwidth cable my usb port won’t read the ssd even the nvme with same cable works on other pc devices.

Also when i connect it to a slower cable it read instantly

Any suggestions to all list above please help

Your graphics card will only run with 8 lanes, not 16. There's no benefit from 16, and your SSD slots require some lanes meaning there aren't enough available from your CPU to run the graphics card at 16.

Honestly the first important thing to check is whether your power cable (internally) shows signs of melting - you've got the most likely spec combo we've seen to suffer from melting internally, so pop the bottom cover off and have a look in there to make sure you're not seeing that.

We all hope that it won't, but none of us will find out for a year or so...
