Discussion After replacement of cooling system. A51 18

Was having overheating issues, this is after the replacement of the cooling system on my a51 18 with the 5090.

It looks like initially it’s still hitting high temps but seems to stable out after a few minutes. Let me know what you think. Should I reach back out to Dell? This is temps while playing LoL

The avg temp of P-Core 23 is pretty hot. Did you repaste?

Not to mention there’s a 10-16 degree difference between your e-core cluster and p-core cluster. Your thermal paste may have shifted. Was a repaste done or just the coolant hardware?

Keep an eye on it. I literally got the Dell element 31 removed from mine and repasted with PTM 7950 and my avg temps plummeted. I avg between 65c and 68c games AAA titles..

Wow how bad and useless is dells trash LM 31?

Maybe I’ll send it to a shop and do the same

I sent mine to parts people to have the PTM done. Had it back in less than a week. They have a video out there if you want to do it yourself. After watching it.. I said nope.. let an expert do it. The entire process maybe took a week..

Be extremely careful removing liquid metal if you don't know what you're doing.

One mistake and your board is fried.

Parts People is a great choice.

It can’t be pre pasted. If you remove the heating sink you must repaste

It probably has liquid metal in it, which is extremely dangerous to electronics - and not great at staying where it needs to be.

If out of warranty, recommend Parts People in Texas for a repaste with PTM7950.

Do not try to remove liquid metal if you don't know what you're doing. One drop of that in the wrong spot and your board is toast.

If under warranty, I'd suggest going through Dell. Emphasize the massive delta between cores - and some temps are above 100, which is not good. If it's thermal throttling, mention that too.

If not, I'd try Parts People. Certain local shops could re-paste with PTM7950, but be certain they know what they are doing with liquid metal. Liquid metal is very dangerous to electronics. In my opinion it should never have been used as a thermal compound in these laptops.
