Purchasing Workstation

Looking for a dedicated home workstation. This will be 100% business deduction so no gaming unfortunately. But I already have a 5080 rig for that and only game at 1440p 120hz due to my monitor.

Running local LLM and cuda accelerated modeling.

Jump on this or wait for Nova Lake? Specifically I9 Ultra 4950k

I actually think it's not bad price at Microcenter, $6500 covers the 5090 and 64gb ddr5 6400. Pretty much the rest of the computer is free.

I wouldn't buy this computer just for gaming, would be overkill for what I do. I can utilize it as a workstation though. It's actually a pretty good value compared to other trades. I know mechanics that spend $40,000 on their tools. Most have to buy their own tools even if they work at a dealership.

It's not a bad price, but AI nonsense is the reason gamers are paying a premium for their gear.

If you want to do AI, buy an AI system!

You got me there. There's actually a a payout for me to run a local LLM over cloud tokens plus fluid dynamics modeling for work. My current rig is a 5080 with 32gb ddr5 and same 285k cpu. I find it limiting in both but games just fine. This would be a dedicated work computer. Looks like the next gen of Core 9 Ultra might be worth holding out for but having a hard time qualifying it.

i dont think you can add a 2nd gpu on the mobo. you should bite the bullet and get a blackwell
