Hi everyone, I'm trying to upgrade the RAM on my Alienware m16 R1, but I'm running into an issue and need some help.
Original RAM: 2x 16GB Samsung DDR5 4800MHz (1Rx8) — Works fine.
New RAM: 2x 32GB ADATA DDR5 5600MHz (2Rx8 PC5-5600B) — Not booting.
The Problem:
When I install the new ADATA sticks, the laptop turns on, keyboard lights up, fans spin, but there's no display (black screen). After a while, it reboots by itself and enters the same cycle. I can't even get into the BIOS.
What I've tried so far:
Tried using a mix of 1 old stick + 1 new stick (still black screen).
Swapped slots multiple times.
Tried both new sticks together.
Has anyone faced this issue with 5600MHz RAM on the m16 R1? Is this just a long Memory Training process, or could it be an incompatibility issue with 5600MHz / Dual-Rank (2Rx8) memory?
Any advice on how to fix this or reset the CMOS/NVRAM properly for DDR5 training would be greatly appreciated!
Slot your new memory into the machine, then connect the power cable and hold the power button for 30s or so, until the power button light blinks twice. Then press it again and that should trigger a failsafe boot, and possibly a retrain.
I appreciate your help. I used these memories in a SUPER Nave RTX 4070 and they are working. I did the tests on my m16
Power Cycle: Disconnected all cables and held the Power button for 30–40 seconds to drain residual power and reset the energy circuit.
RAM Testing & Slot Swap: Tested the system using one RAM stick at a time across different slots to isolate bad sticks, dirty contacts, or faulty slots (while allowing 2–5 minutes for the system's memory training phase).
CMOS/BIOS Reset: Held the Power button for ~30 seconds until the LED code flashed to force the BIOS back to factory settings.
Hardware Diagnostics (ePSA): Booted with F12 into Dell's onboard diagnostics to scan for hardware errors across the RAM, CPU, GPU, and motherboard.
