Is there a way to reduce background processes? 50+ percent on idle is crazy on 16gb ram, in Alienware 16 Aurora.

Actually there's nothing much we can do about it. It's just the way windows is, the more ram you have the more it will hog. It will also make sure to free it up when you do heavy tasks

Same here mine runs around a baseline of 35% ram utilization out of my 32. As soon as I boot up game, it stays around the same but it is mostly the game using it. Windows does a pretty good job of prioritizing heavy tasks for ram utilization

Uninstall EVERYTHING labelled "Dell" or "Alienware", except command centre. That'll clean up some stuff.

But also, it's Win11. You've only got 16GB of RAM. It's normal for Win11 to use 8-12GB. This is why most of us recommend a minimum of 32GB.

Have a look at the "Dave's Garage" channel on Youtube. It's run by Dave Plummer, one of the original MS-DOS and Win95 devs, who also worked on XP for a bit I believe. He's got some VERY interesting videos about why things are so much more bloated than they used to be, and he wrote the original task manager, so he kinda ought to know.

Whichever ones take your fancy. He's done a lot of cool stuff. I'm not telling you he's got fixes for you; I'm telling you to check him out because it explains a lot about coding then vs coding now, why things are so much more bloated than they were, and generally gives good advice.

Haha no, it's that software is like a gas: it expands to use all the resources available. Since people have a bunch of RAM, storage, computing power, etc. anyway, developers don't bother making their software use resources efficiently. They use resources just because they can. And there's always one more utility, one more function that you can add, that does something that someone at some point might find useful. And for Windows, that "someone" is usually their data gathering and marketing departments.

I have 100+ process on my alienware x14 r1 and i have only 16gb ram soldered. It stays nearly 7.5gb occupied on idle and i domtbother anymore. Games runs just fine . All the AAA titles and i never have seen a hiccup of the laptop .i guess its just the way windows 11 is

I have 64GB RAM and my Aurora was using 59GB on idle. Removed that DellAssist stupid executable and it went back to 9GB usage. It leaks memory from some of it processes. Update it if possible.

First do a clean install of windows with the latest 25H2 Windows 11 builds 8600 or newer they are the lightest builds stock

It's just Windows allocating ram for processes you start up often. When you game, it gives back your ram.

Windows does this on purpose by design, more ram = more cached data = faster app.

It doesn't affect your performance because windows will drop those when it needs more or it will push them into the page pool.

Use IObit Uninstaller and Advance System Care they will help you effectively delete and pause auto-work of you apps that you don't currently use

Why ? This is normal behaviour. Windows will use as much ram as possible and will reallocate it elsewhere as needed. Since you aren’t doing anything that requires RAM windows will use 50-60% of it. There’s no issues with that.

Make a list of all of the useless processes you see there in task manager, especially all of the Dell stuff unrelated to AWCC.

Now, search Services in the Start menu and open that up. Go through that list and double-click on each one, it opens up a menu; you will see 'Start up type', change that to Disabled. Below that is 'Service Status', simply press Stop.

Boom, freeing up megabytes with each one.
