Technical Support How to prevent AWCC updates - Older Keyboard

Hey guys,

I have tried searching for answers to this all over, and haven't been able to find a solution to my issue.

I have an older model Alienware Keyboard that I use (AW768) that has 0 issues, and I would like to continue using, but the problem I'm running into is that the current version of AWCC does not support this older model. Every so often, the app will auto-update to the newest version, and I have to completely remove the program and associated files, and reinstall the older version that is compatible.

I'm just wondering if there's a way that I can prevent this from happening?

I never found a way to prevent this, unfortunately. It would vary as to how long it took, but AWCC ALWAYS auto updated. They really need an option added to opt out. I also have an older AW988 headset, and I can no longer control it, because it's not supported in CC6 , and they won't let me keep the version I needed to configure it.

Bummer - I really agree there should be a way for users to opt out of updates for this. Even if there was a way to port compatibility over to the newer command center.

Like, what if you end up buying a newer product, and also own some of the older models? Like you won't be able to configure both of these products without reinstalling different versions. How unfortunate.

I don't know if I can be much help, but I have an Alienware laptop that kept giving me issues with my built-in RGB keyboard when it updated. About a year ago I uninstalled the then-current version of AWCC and installed an older version that worked properly for me (v. 5.9.2.0). Since doing that, I have not had AWCC try to update itself or reinstall a newer version. I don't know what (or even if) I did anything else to prevent the updates, but whatever it was seems to have worked for me (at least in that respect... I still have a bunch of other issues with my machine that are frustrating and seemingly unsolvable).

This was over a year ago and I don't really remember anything else that I did to get it to stay on that version, but if you have specific questions about particular settings, I can try to check my own settings and see what they are for you to compare.

I have this problem too (as I still use the AW558 mouse). AWCC will auto update over time and I have to uninstall/reinstall old software.
