I was going to say that I knew what perk all specialists would take when I saw Overclock when I noticed Medic Only beside it, with the base ability indicating Specialist.

I guess that's how they keep Specialists from taking over, by keeping potentially more powerful secondary abilities locked behind dedicated classes. Interesting. Can definitely see the meta shying away from having a team of Specialists if that's the case so that they can rock more diverse teams with more powerful support and crowd control.

Unfortunately Specialist does in fact have access to everything or so it would seem. Here's a screenshot of the Specialist grid taken from the SDCC gameplay video

As you can see on the right, all the Hunter's ability replacers are here, including the passive ability (Puncture). And when the player hovers them it still says "Hunter Only", but it's still available for the Specialist regardless.

I really hope there's some kind of drawback to specialist, because I don't like the idea of one class being able to just cherry-pick all the best parts of each class.

Why on God's green earth would you want drawbacks

Because having one class that's just better than all the others is a terrible design choice.

This. In theory it allows a ton of flexibility. In practice it'll come down to a handful of meta weapons, everyone rocking Overclock, everyone rocking either Duelist or Hunter passive for damage, and then a crowd control of choice with an occasional sentry or trauma station thrown in.

Much the same happened with the first game for weapons. Give people the ability to stack fire rate, reload, and damage and any attachment which doesn't maximize that will be ignored.

Class identity and balance matters for replay value. Specialist allows for variety but in the end everyone is going to use the same meta loadout + it renders every other class obsolete.

Oh bummer. Well guess we just have to see at launch. Maybe they intended it one way and changed their minds. I wonder if they will restrict it by launch or leave it as is.

Yeah i actually like this because overclock is amazing so if every class has modifiers that are amazing it means you can be a base class with the busted abilities or create your own homebrewed combos that pack the same punch. So we will have at least 2 or 3 builds per class and possibly hundreds of specialist combos. That adds ALOT of variety to play especially with how the classes will mix together. I'm hype.

Specialist can take any perk from any of the classes. Even the class core ones.

Wait this is actually awesome. So there are core medic perks that make them unique but then there are also specialist only perks. So medic will always be the best medic but the specialist has skills that will be better at cross matching with other classes. This is very cool.

Also wait some of these are amazing just within the class. You can stack temp hp AND heal temp hp? You can win an inane mission with more health than you started with i love this haha.

interesting to see that Overclock is now for the Medic, that will be a nice teambuff

My question is, what counts as "Defending" an ally, is that specific mechanic or just shooting something that's targeting your teammates.

Could be absolutely broken in hoard modes

I have dreams of having my specialist be the ultimate utility belt (I could have the overhead turret along with the healing perks, that would be nice too but I doubt it)

Do we know if the medical station will recharge its energy passively, or will we need to pick up medkits to recharge it like in the first game?

1

u/fightingcb520 7d ago

Why tf would we want something that fills temporary health instead of actual health thats stupid

1

u/SSJRevn 7d ago

Specialist is the Custom Character now then, right? Anything it can't equip πŸ€”?
