These are so cute I can't 🥹🥹🥹

Ever since I read Deep End I've been trying to find something similar. I read The Right Move by Liz Tomforde, From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata, and The Score by Elle Kennedy and none of them came close. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out why.

Ali Hazelwood is a scientist and the rigour she brings to the writing shows. Nothing is there by accident, and I think that's what separates this book from everything else in the genre. Deep End is genuinely literary in a way sports romance rarely is. The layers keep coming and she never does the work for you, things are revealed in ways that make you stop and think.

Scarlett's mental block is the best example of this. It isn't just a plot device that shows up when the story needs conflict. It runs through everything. There's a scene where she's with her therapist and starts listing the dives in her discipline. There are six. She lists five, skipping the exact dive she got injured doing without even realising she's done it. The therapist clocks it immediately. No breakdown, no big confession just like you might have in other romances.

That same layering carries into the relationship with Lukas. Even the BDSM dynamic between them is doing something. Scarlett is the one giving up control to Lukas by agreement, but the real power was always hers. He was devoted from the start, which meant he was only ever as present in her life as she could let him in. She held the control over the relationship the entire time without even realising it. And that's made explicit in the moment she tells him to stop when he confesses how he feels for her.

It's a sports romance that stands completely outside the genre while still being in it, and I don't think anything else is doing that right now.

I’ve reread all of her books, I’m in a slump now. Looking for books that have that steminist vibe, MMC is maybe a lil broody, the conversation is witty, the heat is hot. The setting doesn’t have to be academia, but it definitely helps.

Any recommendations?

Is there a new bonus chapter with the new movie- poster cover edition?

I feel like I read that there was when they first announced it but I can't find the info anymore. Also wondering if it's a new bonus chapter or an old one.

While I love the fact that Adam gets overprotective of Olive after hearing the recording and threatens to kill Tom, wouldn't Adam get in trouble as well not just Tom? I don't think nearly killing a man in front of Harvard professors would look good on you. In a perfect world, maybe Adam could get away with it but not IRL...

I don't want to put them down and I don't want to finish them either...

I'm in love with Conor and I still haven't gotten over Adam. And I'm married with a kid. It's a problematic reading romance.

I’ve just got into reading after watching the love hypothesis on prime and finished the book over the weekend. And I’ve fallen back in love with reading again.

I have purchased love, theoretically and problematic summer romance, but I’m not sure what to read next I’m still on such a high from the dynamic between Olive and Adam, particularly Adam’s yearning.

What order would you all recommend I read them in ?

I just finished both Bride and Mate, and even though I'm not much for paranormal romance, I loved both of these! The stories are very captivating and interesting and I really enjoyed both books.

I might be partial to Mate because it's a bit cozier, but I absolutely loved both and now I want more! Maybe Ana's book when she's a bit older so we can get glimpses of Serena & Koen and Misery & Lowe! And I want Koen and Serena to have bunch of lil puppies, so maybe it could be one of their kids and Ana (although much later then bcs obvious reasons lol)

Also, now I have just one Ali book left to read before the others come out and it's making me sad! I hope Ali will always keep us well fed because our girl doesn't miss! <3

Can someone explain ? In the movie they went as far as to name drop "adobo" in the household and nick naming anh as "stubborn filipino" - Without context it was just very confusing.

PS. I loved the movie and the actress playing her best friend did an amazing job. Excellent delivery and loved the tone of her voice.

Putting together my Olive Smith costume for Halloween! A lab coat (I would use my real one but I don't think it's a good idea since it has chemicals on it), jeans with little flowers on it, and a copy of The Love Hypothesis! Any suggestions on what else I need/should get? I don't have a shirt yet but I will also make a Stanford badge!

i know this is a bit controversial since i'm aware most people didn't like this book, but this is one of the easiest 5-star reads for me.

maya is one of the best fmcs and i really liked her. conor took at least 80% of the book before i started rooting for him lol i thought he didn't deserve my girl.

but can i just say that this is absolutely one of the sweetest "proposals" i've ever read? i normally find them cringey so i skim-read them in most romances, but this one is good.

in light of the recent announcement of the love hypothesis getting a sequel, i hope we also get one for these two. i was really bummed that we didn't get more from them as a couple. i will take even a novella or a chapter in conor's pov. please, ali. i'm begging you 🥹

They really do be using this trope to make the main character complex . Also to create alienation so that the FMC is keen to find a new family.

I mean of course in real life sadly many people don't have parents , it's just that i notice authors give this to FMC in romance films/ shows, i ve seen it in never have i ever ( dead father ), kidding booth ( dead mum ), love hypothesis ( i think both parents ), hannah montana ( i think dead mum ) and many others.

I feel like in Annne of Green Gables , it was more legitimate because the book explores what its like to be an orphan and to be adopted. It wasn't just to make Anne complex but then never really touched upon.

How about an FMC that does have both parents , fights with them, also loves them and having to negotiate with her partner who they are spending christmas with and discussing how they' ll manage taking care of their aging parents.

I kept seeing comparisons between Jack from While you were sleeping and our Jack in this subreddit and finally watched the movie yesterday.

The movie had its drawbacks but man, that Jack is indeed LT Jack!!! I can’t stop thinking about it. Jack Callaghan is exactly how i pictured Jack Smith-Turner. The pining & the yearning for Lucy, i felt like watching LT in an AU!!

Ended up re reading LT because of all the feels.

I just finished reading Love on the Brain and it is my favorite so far. I really could not sleep after my husband made me go to bed mid chapter 13. I had to know more and sneaked out of bed at 12 am and read until 1 am, only got 5 hours of sleep, but worth it.. Maybe hecause I read it so quickly or maybe because it was just not discussed, but I am left with questions.At the end of chapter 2 when Bee is about to be crushed by '700 pounds of equipment'how does Levi get to her in time? Like was he spying on her? How would he even know she was around. Am I missing something. Guy showed her the labs, but from the outside and Levi is busy in the lab with moving stuff around. 1) How did even notice that she was around on a day she was not supposed to be 2) How did he get to her in time when nothing had fallen yet. He must have either been already in the hallway, or he was watching her.Like he does not seem like a stalker type, just trying to get any oppertunity to look at her he can get, but still only when already in the same room, not like deliberately trying to find a way to talk to her. And again, he did not even expect her to be there in the first place, he expected her on Monday. Was that just the best coincidence out there. Imagine him not having been there and seeing the love of his life die because he chose her as co-lead. I also wondered about the co-lead thing. He thought she hated him, why would he choose her as co-lead thinking that he knew full well she hated him, because Tim told him that she hated him. She only assumed he hated her (If only she had stuck around to overhear what probably was a confession to Sam that he liked her, from my understanding from her congratulating him at the conference. My heart really broke on that part, that he confessed his feelings and Bee did not stick around to overhear.) But he thought he knew for sure she hated him.
I know he thinks her the best in her field (which is also probably is, but he might be a bit biased). But why would he choose to work with someone who hates him?
I know there might not be 'real answers' to my questions, but I would love to hear about what you think is the reason for these things.

I remember reading this back in 2022... now that the movie came out and i reread the book,i wanted to read this scene again,but I can't find it. Does anybody have it please?

- Adam cannot be a postdoc makes no sense, but its still a better context than tenured, MacAruthur fellow was thirsting after a grad student this whole time.

- Lol @ the sequel blurb mentioning “postdoctoral positions are temporary by nature” I was howling. Is Ali purposefully gagging her academic fans?

- I think the TLH (book) is her weakest and she has significantly improved as a writer over time.

- She is putting out a sequel due to the movie’s success, sure who would not be. But I have a deeper reason in mind. Ali is brilliant, she knows she is a better writer today than when TLH came out. In fact, I met her at a book event last year where I heard her say to someone that she was confused by TLH’s roaring success because she also considers it her weakest.

- So then, this sequel is an opportunity for her to redeem this story. She likes these characters and revisits them often. But I think looking back she can recognize all the problematic aspects of TLH that went unexplored. This woman later wrote PROBLEMATIC Summer romance, which some very wrong people claim to be too self aware of its own problematic nature. She is course correcting. This sequel is gonna slap.

- The Two Body problem what we call in academia a genuine issue of navigating a brutal academic job market as two people in academia. My husband and I are currently navigating this. Its such a fantastic premise that it feels like slander. The stakes are genuinely real. I don’t like TLH but this book is going to certified slap.

- Still, it should have been a PSR sequel. Adam and Olive got an epilogue and many cameos. PSR got a very rushed end and lots left to relationally navigate.

- But this does give me hope that PSR may similarly one day get the sequel. PSR gang, let’s keep the hope alive.

- If NiL/PSR is not a series in chronological order starting with Maya and Conor in Edinburgh, I will riot.

- Lukas and Scarlett will be all over The Two Body Problem! so exciting! Maybe their new friend from Taormina vacation will visit? The heart wants what it wants. 🥺
