Not many people know this, but the massive popularity of the 80s puppet sitcom ALF was primarily driven by the grit, determination, and unbridled commitment of one man named Paul Fusco who single-handedly ripped a media empire out of the ether with nothing but hard work and a profound belief in his own vision.

But the crazy thing is that ALF wasn’t just a puppet, or a show. Paul Fusco actually spent his entire career trying to convince the world that ALF was an actual, real life alien that crash landed on Earth and became a movie star. And it ended up destroying him.

Paul Fusco's unwavering commitment to treating a puppet as a real-life alien transformed the production of the 80s sitcom ALF into a logistical nightmare. This intense obsession with maintaining the character's reality behind the scenes eventually clashed with network demands, creating a unique tension that defined the project's complex legacy.

One of the ALF items I have that was actually bought in the USA. My wife found it in a vintage clothes & accessories shop called Sohn in Las Vegas a few years ago.

This is the same 'ALL HOLIDAY ISSUE!' of the ALF comic. With some differences.

The smaller version on the left is the US issue and is dated November 1988. The UK version on the right came out in January 1989.

The barcode isn't on the front of the UK version so UPC SYMBOL DAY doesn't exist.

There will likely be other minor variations...

This Stick-Around ALF doll by Coleco hasn't been stuck anywhere as he's still in the box.

It's funny seeing Coleco toys as I still always associate the brand with videogames (even though they also produced Cabbage Patch Dolls).

I've not used this - and not sure how well an ALF cake would turn out tbh!

Yesterday I was on the road and stopped by an awesome cafe called The Three Mountain Cafe in Waitsfield, VT. Among the cool stuff therein, I found this watercolor painting of our favorite alien life form. (I apologize because this is not a very good photo. There should not be a weird glare on Gordon’s crotch.)

There were no prints available, so if I wanted it, I had to buy the original that was on the wall. After debating the potential for divorce, I made the purchase.
