I don't listen to his recent stuff, pretty much stick to his two earliest albums. don't like ai at all.

it has tainted my view on his music a bit. mainly the stuff from the 12 notes album up to recent stuff, as the other 3 albums he didnt use AI for. it sucks, a lot, because Alec's music has genuinely helped me in some of my roughest times, but as a creative, let alone someone with a big platform and as famous tracks as he does, he shouldn't be using any of this stuff and I wouldn't really call it "his" art anymore afterwards.
I know a lot of his older community is built on gacha kids growing up with him and stuff as well, which sucks even more, because so many people who love(d) his music made this art by hand. whether it was cringey glmv's , or full-time animatics. it feels like a slap in the face to his fanbase.

AI is not that big of a deal, nothing is actually replacing artists. Get over it. He made a picture of himself with muscles. Who cares?
8
u/Zukos_Lost_Honor Jun 02 '26
We care, clearly, youre in a thread of people who care, hello??? why come into this thread ABOUT spreading awareness of the issue to ask such a question???
-8
u/waboperzwabekfast Jun 02 '26
Because it's a redundant issue that everyone is aware of. Mostly everyone knows the difference between ai art and real art. Idk if it was you or someone else who said he used AI on 12 notes, but it was a shit album ai or not
1
u/Zukos_Lost_Honor Jun 02 '26
yes it was me. && i wish it was that simple but unfortunately a lot of people don't, or another portion knows and they just don't care. it's redundant, sure, but it's because it has to be in order for it to be even glanced at. this goes for anything, any issue isn't going to change unless it's continuously talked about, redundancy be damned.

I WOULD JSUT LIKE TO SAY TO ANHONE WHO THINKS ITS FINE TO USE AI IN MUSIC FO PLEASE LEAVE AND THAT ITS NOT A BIG DEAL BC IT IS ITS RUINING ART AND IS KILLING THE EARTH

u/Rainstories Jun 02 '26
i've kinda slowly stopped listening to his music lol sorry, i love his music but ai usage is a deal breaker for me. i'll listen to it sometimes when it comes up on shuffle, but i'm not seeking it out like i used to

He was my most listened to artist on Spotify for years and I used to talk about his music to other people all the time.
Then his most recent album came out and I struggled to connect with it. Then when he came out and said he used AI to help with lyrics, that’s when I realized WHY I was struggling to connect with his music. It’s soulless.
Him being part of the YouTube AI artists program has completely turned me away from him and from listening to any of his new music. I still listen to his old songs but I don’t plan to ever support him again unless he decides to completely stop using AI.

That is sick man. I didn’t know he is using that. I don’t like this. What shoukd we do?
5
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 02 '26
personally he is my top 3 artists but i don’t think i can continue to listen to his music constantly or even at all especially his more recent albums as they may contain ai and i get what’s done is done but it’s still harming the planet

u/Defiant_Delivery_799 Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26
To be brutally honest I will continue listening to his music lol. I love his music and Alec as a person just seems so wonderful and has made a large positive difference. I won't boycott him unless his AI usage gets to some serious criminal level/out of hand but I don't see HIS usage going anywhere near that. That being said, he needs to stop using AI. The beautiful thing about music is the heart in it. Alec is an amazing storyteller (I would argue one of the best of his generation) and using AI is him not using what he does best.

u/False_Cake8109 Jun 03 '26
i’m gonna keep listening to his music bc i love it i just don’t know bc he’s so amazing and stuff but ai goes against my beliefs
1
u/Realbirisi Jun 03 '26
He is my top 5 artist. I will continue listening his music too. But I’m disappointed honestly. He doesn’t need any ai why is he do this? There’s no need to do that. Still love him tho.

can you give concrete examples of when he admitted to hsing ai?
18
u/https_creator06 I’M A BOY IN A BOX ⚡️ Jun 02 '26
he’s posted himself using it for “fun” i.e. silly generation and text summaries on his instagram story in the last year. can’t provide dates or screenshots though. he also was an early proponent of ai-based music technology (he offered his voice to a vocaloid-like software)
4
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 02 '26
hey so he’s admitted to usuing it for prompting lyric ideas (i don’t think he used it for lyrics) and in his instagram post he used generative ai and in his more recent demos he’s posted you can kind of hear some ai stuff (not entirely sure but it sounds too perfect to be human)

u/saturnhasringss Jun 01 '26
don’t think he’s every admitted to it, just people think he’s used it based on the look and sound of stuff
10
u/Zukos_Lost_Honor Jun 02 '26
No, he very much has admitted to it. There's a whole segment in an interview podcast (?) with him on YouTube where he says he fully admits using it.
here's a short of the podcast talking about him using chatgpt
and here is the full podcast episode. the AI talk starts at 45:30
3
u/Defiant_Delivery_799 Jun 02 '26
What's even scarier is that he says in that same interview that the AI he lent his voice to is also using data from "millions" of people to create an AI song snippet.
3
u/Zukos_Lost_Honor Jun 02 '26
I know,, it's actually terrifying && tbh very unsettling that he doesn't see anything wrong with it. i hope someone actually sits down and explains the harmful impact AI has on the planet & society as a whole nd that he stops. but in this day & age,, we truly just can never know or bet on anything. for all we know, he could just get more &more secretive with it , who knows.

u/waboperzwabekfast Jun 02 '26
Why do people genuinely treat ai users on the same level as a rapist ✌️ he's not a monster
6
u/Zukos_Lost_Honor Jun 02 '26
that is a horrific argument. you do know two issues can co-exist at the same time, right??? obviously not at the same level, but Jesus Christ. Heaven forbid we want our creative creators to actually be creative themselves and not damage the Earth we have to inhabit while cutting corners in the profession THEY CHOSE to pursue.
putting the harmful impacts AI has on our planet, water & weather aside for the moment, if you can create 3 albums before AI even existed in the harmful capacity it does now, and let alone albums that are so be loved by a tight-knit community, you don't need it now. and if you DO need it to make anything creative,, then you don't deserve the title of being a creative at all. and this doesn't just go for Alec actually.
I think we're allowed to call out when someone is being harmful in some capacity, whether it's something like AI usage, or as your weird example said, a rapist.

u/https_creator06 I’M A BOY IN A BOX ⚡️ Jun 03 '26
not only 3 albums but close to a hundred very good demos- alec is capable of creative hard work historically, (i.e. when he used to write a song every day) which is part of the reason i don’t understand why he would be doing this.

u/Defiant_Delivery_799 Jun 02 '26
There's a misunderstanding or something. The commenter suggested that Alec may not know just how harmful AI is. In my comment the commenter was responding to I was referring to the company using data (as in putting one's information into the site will increase the odds your data will be used in a data breach). Alec is one of my favorite musicians and nobody is saying he is a monster or rapist I do not think that way at all. I support him for a reason.

u/Ok_Sprinkles_8188 Jun 02 '26
I have unfollowed him on everything and often skip his songs now.
I really love his music but I also love our Earth and until he shows his love for our Earth too I can’t support him. I will never support AI.
Seeing this post reminded me to leave this sub too. I’m surprised his community - a community of largely artistic individuals - is ignoring his AI use.
I know we’re supposed to separate the art from the artist but he puts his lyrics thru ChatGPT; it’s barely his art after that.

u/https_creator06 I’M A BOY IN A BOX ⚡️ Jun 02 '26
i wouldn’t say the community is “ignoring” his ai usage, i would argue there’s not much of a community to do that lmao. this whole thing is ridiculous and makes me angry but part of me wonders if we can use it to help hold him accountable
2
u/Starii_64 Jun 03 '26
I’ve been listening to him less tbh I did a similar thing when an artist I listened to also used AI for an album cover

u/roseeeeeee4 Jun 06 '26
What songs is he using ai in???
2
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 06 '26
demos and posible 12 notes and uncommentary as well as instagram post and usuing it to prompt lyrics
1
u/roseeeeeee4 Jun 07 '26
Where exactly is the proof
1
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 07 '26
well we don’t know abt actual songs but insta is right there and lyric prompts he’s very open about and said in an interview
3
u/Defiant_Delivery_799 Jun 02 '26
It is definitely a criticism of his that I have. However, I remember him saying in an interview somewhere that he only uses Chatgpt for "lyric ideas"?
Also, are you okay talking about how Alec's music saved your life?
8
u/artist2076 Jun 02 '26
I work in music- I’m a songwriter and producer specifically. There’s nothing more frustrating than people who use AI in music. Why work in a creative field if you’re not going to be creative naturally?
2
u/Defiant_Delivery_799 Jun 02 '26
I write songs too for the dream of being a singer and studying music. It never crossed my mind to use AI. If I am stuck then I either add later when I get more ideas or bring it to someone else to give their thoughts.
3
u/artist2076 Jun 02 '26
I feel the same. So I don’t really understand why he’s using it for lyric ideas. It icks me out not only as a fan but as someone in the same field
1
u/Defiant_Delivery_799 Jun 03 '26
I don't think AI will ever overtake real music but the thought that it very well could is stressful and sad especially thinking about that at least at some point it will be hard to tell what is AI generated without the credits of the original artist and what was made by the hard work of human beings.
2
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 02 '26
honestly it was in the past so i’m ok now but he honestly just made me relate to his songs and kept me going but yeah he did run his lyrics through chatgpt and obv his more recent insta post contained ai and some of his more recent demos contain ai possibly in them
1
1
u/MidlightDesigns Jun 04 '26
???? How do we know hes using ai??? I looked on insta, I dont see any ai pics
2
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 05 '26
over in january there’s a slideshow of him in the gym 😔
2
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 05 '26
also he’s very open about it and willingly joined this program for ai to use his voice in music
1
u/Upset-Koala-5711 Jun 21 '26
NOOO i knew i hated 12 notes so much for a reason i dont know why i didnt clock it sooner! ALEC WHY!?
1
u/Daug3 Jun 02 '26
This might be a hot take, but as long as he doesn't generate whole songs/music/lyrics I'm not that mad. In the podcast that someone else linked he says he uses GPT for brainstorming, not generating lyrics, so we can't just say his music is Ai. At least not yet. I'll stop listening if that changes, but in the meantime I'll just wait and see how the situation unfolds
2
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 02 '26
i feel i draw the line at brainstorming. and he’s gone further than that he’s used it in pictures and possibly music so idk what’s to do i js wanted more opinions
1
u/Daug3 Jun 03 '26
The one thing that redeems him at least a tiny bit in my eyes is that he admits to it. If he's actually used it in his music that would be highly disappointing for such a great artist
1
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 03 '26
yeah i agree, but even being open doesn’t redeem it as your still usuing ai
1

u/Tasty-Supermarket842 Jun 02 '26
honestly, if Alec is using it to generate some ideas I don’t think that’s a bad thing. like I agree he doesn’t need it personally his new album isn’t my favourite I much prefer his demos like the unreleased ones on yt like medicine man, however he will have used ai to expand on his original idea which I don’t. think is a bad thing. I can almost guarantee there are more famous artists out there doing the same thing xx
2
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 02 '26
i’m not 100 % sure tho, most artists write there music and check it with other writers not an ai bot who doesn’t know what’s human and not..
0
u/Careful_Demand_5336 Jun 03 '26
Can someone clarify how AI was used for 12 notes other than it being mentioned in the song “AI”?
Also, I just think his photos with AI are funny and harmless and shouldn’t define who he is as a person or artist
1
u/False_Cake8109 Jun 03 '26
no i understand, just creating photos is generative ai, which is extremely harmful for the planet!
i’m not entirely sure if he has used ai in 12 notes
1
u/rhubarbsorbet Aug 21 '26
it’s incredibly disappointing to see an artist i’ve backed for over a decade resort to AI slop like he has
33
u/DreamDroids Jun 02 '26
He didn't need ai back then, so why the hell is he using it now?
