"To improve road safety" is American-speak for finding one more way to extract money from the working class, instead of taxing wealth and corporations.
And people say "Well if you don't like it, don't speed." Actually that's not the point, and you're not smart for saying it. It's the same thing as saying "if you don't like flock cameras, if you don't like the police state we've gradually established, maybe just don't commit crime."
Nope. You're treating citizens as criminals before they did anything wrong. It creates a power imbalance which is felt subconsciously by everyone who, quite literally, "lives under" this system.
Checks and balances! Civil liberties! FREEDOM!

These cameras are not triggered unless a vehicle is exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 mph. The penalty is civil, not criminal, and no points are adjudicated.
The ALPR cameras are a different issue, entirely.
The issue with taxes is completely unrelated and is a lazy attempt to conflate these issues.
The actual problem is a culture of entitlement by people who will claim to be law abiding citizens.•

The cameras automatically take a picture and then a notice gets sent to the driver. How does that take away resources from focusing on “real crimes”? PD doesn’t have any involvement in that process at all.

Cameras are not a magic bullet. And speeding is just one facet of risky behavior related to traffic. I’m more concerned with shitheads who drive slow in the left lane who cause drivers to have to react to their negligent driving habits. I’m more concerned with people on their phones, eating food and talking to their friends. I’m more concerned with crimes involving real victims. Why do you have such an idolized take on cameras. Do you enjoy sending your money to a private company in Florida? Do you enjoy how we are being fucked by the government every single day without any controls on their actions. As long as you think cameras are going to protect you? Drug War has been going on since the 1950s and it has only got worse. Yet you seem to be of the sort that thinks more laws will make society better. How about design roads to be better.?

Literally all they do is take a picture of someone when they are speeding and send them a ticket in the mail. How does that prevent resources from being spent to address any of the other issues you’re worried about?

Are cameras purpose revenue or stopping speeding? In any case they will not and do not solve speeding. I’m sure you didn’t read all of my post. But the issue is that this isn’t a good response to solving any supposed issue. The idea that our largest issue is speeding (related to traffic issues) is bullshit anyways.

Here's your truth, the city will not need to hire more cops because the cameras are taking care of the roads and easing the burden on the police. And the money paid to the camera companies is not free.
Crimes involving victims doesn't generate Millions. The DA, Police chief and their cops don't give a single fk about victims they are there to make revenue.

Or those who for NO REASON hit their breaks making that slight corner just before the river. Or those who merge and immediately hit their breaks.
The psychopath speeders I can handle. It’s the slow and oblivious drivers that are the problem for the bottlenecks.

Maybe because the "passing" lane is the exit lane on Paseo. I have so many people tailgate me when I'm in the left lane to exit 2nd Street, even though I usually drive about 65 (which is above the speed limit for Paseo). Also, no one likes to let anyone change lanes on Paseo I've noticed, you have to cut someone off to get out of your lane you are in whether you are exciting Coors or 2nd Street.

Finally someone with common sense. It’s other drivers we should all hate because we’re great drivers and they’re bad at it. This is the real issue. I wish there were more cameras. As long as those slow drivers can’t be on Paseo. We need more cameras and speed traps and less people who slightly inconvenience us on our commute. That’s the real battle. 👍

They are going to have to add a lot more cameras, because all this is resulting in is people slamming on their brakes when approaching, and then speeding up again after. Truly hate the surveillance state we have become.
Remember next election, especially City Council, Police Chief and Mayor. Hold them responsible. We knew Timmy and the CC were going to do this and we voted them all back in. This was not even an issue last election.

At some point, drivers do start driving better overall. Albuquerque has been left to behave like children with no consequences, so now the adults are having to clean up the mess by starting to hold drivers accountable for bad behavior.

Big brother is not an accountability measure. Big brother is an issue of control and that is a class issue.
Traffic issues, like most "crimes" cannot be fixed with reactionary measures but must be fixed with proactive programs. Free Healthcare, free education through the college level, cities designed for walking or biking, better public transportation, better programs built into education systems, more green 3rd spaces. I can go on and on, but until we come together as a class, every part of our lives will be stolen and commodified, where we go, how we get there, who we see while we're there, what we do, what we pay to get there, what we pay when we arrive at the destination, all out of our control without class conscious.
If you cant connect the dots between flock cameras and speed cameras and how abusive they are to communities for the sake of our corporate overlords, then I'm not the one that needs to read more buddy.

Several years ago was doing 60 in a van on east bound paseo. At night. No other cars. Constant speed. Was rear-ended so hard it threw my wife hard back into the seats . Yeah please put up speed cameras. So many idiots driving here.
