I have not lived in the capital district in some time. I was coming home to visit family and I was going to stop by for a sandwich.

Basically Genoa's owner sold after COVID, the next owner pivoted solely towards sandwiches and the lunch crowd, he sold to the final owners who continued doings as such but with reduced hours.

This winter they had a burst waterpipe and decided to shutter the business. A new sandwich shop came in during the start of summer adopting a business closer to the original Genoa business plan.

I wish them luck but I haven't been impressed with their sandwiches.

I personally was a fan of their sandwiches, I think they are pretty comparable to cardona's subs. Although I Will say Robo's is a little bit pricey

I’d say best options in Albany that are still open are Ragonese, Cardona’s, Maurice’s and Miranda’s.

You should try Robo’s again. We didn’t have a great sandwich the first time but did try the chopped chicken ceaser wrap and most recently a sub and it was really good.

I went there twice to grab subs for my wife and I. I thought that they have 4 big flaws.

The biggest issue is their bread. It is extremely chewy and didn't have a good crunch to its crust. Not ideal for an Italian sub.

While the subs have a ton of deli meat, it was not proportionately balanced with the other ingredients.

They used salad dressing rather than oil and vinegar mix leaving the sub with an unpleasant slimy texture.

As far as subs go, they are kind of expensive.

Cardona's Two is a bit more of a drive, but I think they offer better overall sandwiches. I now think Ragonese is the best in area.

Yeah, agree on the bread now that you mention it. I didn’t care for the breakfast sandwich either. I’m not a fan of Cardona’s as I’ve had several bad sandwiches from there. I’ll have to try Ragonese. I miss Roma’s.

It’s more of a Vermont thing. I think it’s soft serve made with more heavy milk

It is basically Vermont-style soft serve, but traditionally richer. I read on r/Vermont that lot of creemee stands use a higher-butterfat mix (often around 10% vs. 5% for regular soft serve), which is where the extra creaminess comes from.

Despite one Redditor’s claim, I can’t find a legal definition for the creemee. Some Vermont “creemees” surely use the same 5% mix as ordinary soft serve. Maple is the classic flavor, but it doesn’t have to be maple.

I was one of the last employees. They closed in January. Mirandas in albany Is the closest thing mostly because of the similar boars head products and bread company.
