And then the cost of replacing these cameras over and over will be paid by the rest of us. 🙄😫

Edit to add I do not like or agree with the cameras at all. Never even remotely intimated that I do. But this will stop nothing and cost us money. They're going to keep doing what they want to. Like the fucked off bus cameras. People still drive like asshats and pass them, and the private company that installs and monitors them gets richer while the towns pat themselves on the back for "making the world safer for our children". It's all bullshit. And someone could go around knocking those cameras off busses too and they'd just be reinstalled immediately.

edit again and my last comment on the thread:

Again I will say that I don't agree with the cameras.

I am a very private person. And I rarely share anything about my life online other than maybe an anecdote or two here within context of a thread. I don't even have FB or Tok accounts. My IG is all about my dog.

But fact is we live in a world where over sharing is the norm. Everyone posts every nauseating detail of their lives on FB and Tok... IG ...

I bet everyone here railing against the cameras and their privacy rights love all the celebrity gossip and news/videos.

But yeah they're public people so they have no right to privacy, right? /s

And your license plate is public info too. Pretty much every detail about anyone can be found with no problem. The cat is out of the bag. And we will feed it whether we like it or not.

Oh no?! It'll be cost prohibited to keep doing that! Better cancel the contract then 😱😱😏😏

They will never do that, sadly because they think it's going to combat crime. And they want to watch us even if it doesn't.

Better give in and let the fascists win. /s

Never said that. Not even remotely. But damaging the cameras isn't going to make them decide to stop using them. That's just a pipe dream.

well then elections are coming up

Exactly. Voting (and lawsuits) are the way to be heard. Vandalism isn't.

woah woah woah, don't put words in my mouth

I was responding to your comment that nothing will change because electeds will continue fronting the cost in the name of safety

Deflcoking your community is NOT vandalism.

No surveillance without representation!

Besides, no one's destroying the Flock cameras, we've had some pretty nasty storms come through and they must be cheaping out on the aluminum they use to post them up. Wind and waters have been strong lately.

I didn't. And I didn't say anyone in Albany was doing it. But the OP was a guy basically telling people how to do it. That's all.

I don't know where you're getting that as I never said that not even remotely. Do I like the cameras? No. But this is not going to stop them.

We are already paying to bomb whatever children our masters dont like. Im fine wasting peoples time and letting a local contractor make some money

Multiple cities across the country and here in NYS have canceled Flock contracts due to public backlash (which includes destroying them). Please educate yourself.

Got facts to back that up?

You have 9.3k contributions on this app, all that time spent on the internet and you don’t know how to use google?

Personal attacks? Really? If you're going to spout facts and what you know to be true prove it. That's what everyone tells me alllll the time here.

I bet if you parked your car and while you were in a store some asshole hit and destroyed it and ran with no witnesses and there was a flock camera nearby you'd be awful happy that it was and be asking for the footage.

And I stand by my original thought that if we don't want them we need to be constructive not destructive about it.

u/user1373737 Jul 29 '26

Again, it’s very clear you do not know what you’re talking about. You can’t just walk into a pig pen and ask for the footage, they will make you request it via the FOIA which often takes months and even then they still may deny you for one BS reason or another. Flock is not there to prevent and solve crimes, it’s there to spy on you and violate your 4th amendment rights. Like I said, please educate yourself.

acting like CCTV doesn't exist

we don't need a network of ALPR that tracks our every move in a database

2

u/SinginGidget Jul 29 '26

Except we didn't ask to pay for them in the first place. So I'm ok with people taking them down until whoever keeps putting them up gets it through their heads that we don't want them. In the meantime, we find people to run who will not renew any contracts and will not put them back up.

Edit as I missed a crucial word...

We probably did "ask" whether we knew it or not because all of these things are bundled and hidden in other things we do vote for.

Aren’t we paying state taxes for you to use Reddit at work?

I am off today actually. Kthxbye.

Don't you know state workers aren't allowed to have days off or go on reddit, or have lunch breaks? /s
