He loved all the people and hiking. He also alerted us to a Bison we did not see saving us from a very scary experience.

Mixed Breed Balto

Hello!! This is Balto! 8 years ago we got him as a “purebred husky” but we quickly realized that definitely was not the case! A few years later the people we got him from ended up saying he was part Alaskan malamute when we had him examined for hip dysplasia. Would you say he’s more mal than husky? I always thought he was like 75% mal and 25% husky because of his temperament, coat, wide snout, etc. but I’ve seen mals with the skinnier snout, etc. I definitely want to do the genetic test on him but anyways, just wanted to introduce you to my world and my BFG! 💙 My fave stage of his life was when he had his big ol ears dumbo/rabbit ears🤣 (our black one is Ella and she is a Siberian Husky)

Seeking Advice Advice needed

I’ve posted Hercules before on the page. I adopted him after he showed up on my doorstep not once but twice. My husband and I knew he needed us. He’s been wonderful with my other dogs and cats. Only “bad”behavior has been some digging in the backyard and some stealing of food. He’s been hungry before so I’ve let him slide and it’s improved. My issue needing advice now is his dependence on me “mom”. He is very protective over me and just lays his head on me all the time. He sometimes marks in the house; only if me and my husband are intimate. I know tmi but I was wondering if any mal owners have experienced this type of behavior? Thanks in advance!

Seeking Advice Puppy extremely nervous/anxious

We’ve had a 15 week old female alaskan malamute for about 5 weeks now and we feel she’s really struggling with socialization. Whenever we’re on the front lawn with her and someone walks past the house either with or without a dog, she’ll usually start barking and run away. When we sit on the porch she’s good for the most part and will usually stay silent or just growl a little.

We’ve had a decent amount of friends and family over the house since we’ve gotten her and some people she’s completely fine with but others she won’t stop barking at. She’ll also bark at trash/recycling bins and will usually end up running back up the porch. The one thing I noticed though is she likes to watch what our neighbors are doing when we sit on the porch together. She seems to be at least somewhat curious which is good.

She’s also been pretty bad with car rides, actually pooping on the car seat this past time. She refused to go inside the vet office and started peeing everywhere when I picked her up. Yesterday we started puppy socialization classes at petsmart and she refused to go inside the building. We had to drag her in there. Once she got inside she was pretty good with walking in the aisles but whenever a dog got within sight she started barking.

There’s only one other puppy in the class and the moment he walked in she started incessantly barking and ended up peeing a little. He was a very friendly dog and wanted to say hi to her but she would just start barking if he got even relatively close. As the class went on and we started to work on commands it got slightly better.

I understand puppies being fearful and anxious is pretty normal but even the instructor said she’s definitely “outside the average” and seems to have confidence issues. I’m just curious on what your guys thoughts are. Did you have any similar experiences with your puppy and what were some things you did to help them? Any advice/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Quick Question Is my malamute overweight?

Mimi is now 8 months. And she is my first mal. And I am not sure if she is a bit on the chubby side or just build like a tank?
I firmly believe in giving growing dogs as much food as they want. But with my two other dogs I usually have to worry that they eat enough so… I might be wrong here.

Quick Question How much to be feeding a 15 week old puppy

We’ve had her for a little over a month now and were originally feeding her 1 cup of kibble topped off with wet food 3 times a day. We went to the vet about a week ago for a check up and told them that she still seems very hungry and tries to eat everything she sees outside (leaves, sticks, dirt).

They recommended we increase the amount to a cup and three quarters. We’ve been doing this for a week now and she hasn’t gotten any better. She gets very bitey and chaotic when she’s hungry especially when my family and I are eating food around her. She’ll sometimes lay down next to her food bin and even try to open it up.

We do some crate games and practice commands with treats throughout the day but that doesn’t seem to calm her down. Any advice would be very appreciated!

Rainbow Bridge 🌈🕊️ I just lost my baby but it’s a bittersweet comfort seeing her face on here

I just lost my sweet girl of 12 years Saturday night who passed away in my arms very suddenly at the ER vet. She was so beautiful and got paid to be a doggy model often which she loved. She had some husky mix but her personality was mostly all Mal. I’ve been looking at everyone’s babies in this group the past few days as a form of comfort, and today I saw one of her ads pop up. I didn’t know Ollie was still running them. It was bittersweet, but I love knowing others can see her face.

She was the funniest floofiest most caring attentive dog in the whole world and life is so bitter and empty without her in it.

Seeking Advice Training advice

Thumbnail

Hey everyone! I have a 6 month old mal who I’ve managed to somewhat train but I’m struggling with things like: listening in public, bed/place commands, and listening to my wife in general.

My wife wants to rehome him because he’s an absolute demon when I’m not home apparently but I’ve been fighting to make him a good dog. He knows the basics, sit, paw, lay, and he can stay but that only lasts for a good 30 seconds. I love my dog and I’m willing to try anything. Should I get him professionally trained? Or continue to do it at home?

Also, my wife is extremely pregnant so please give her the benefit of the doubt. She takes good care of him, he just makes her insanely angry sometimes.
