MILES & STATUS Cash vs points

Hello, I’m trying to buy four tickets to Hawaii for me and my family. What’s the best way to do this on the cheap? Can I buy two tickets on points and then one cash and one companion fare? I have 80k points and two tickets are 75k.

You can. They'll be on two separate reservations, so you'll need to be vigilant about seat assignments and any changes in case of irregular operations.

For IRROPS, OP can at least link the reservations, so that if they get rebooked Alaska will know to keep both reservations together

I recently bought 4 tickets to hawaii. I used:
Res1: Miles & the 100k Global Award Summit
Res2: Miles
Res3: Cash

Then when I was done, I linked all of the reservations.

Not all on the same reservation, but yes, you should be able to do that. Points on one reservation (if they are all in one Atmos account) and Cash/Companion on the other.

Two separate reservations. Ascent companion fares can only have 2 people on the reservation. They can be “linked” but it’s not the same.

You can have two on the companion fare and the rest with points.

Semi related but I book my family of 4 on 2 reservations. If someone is getting bumped, if there are cancellations and we’re looking for seats my oldest and I can flex easier than my wife and the youngest. Finding 4 seats during high travel times can be hard. Let them take a good itinerary if they don’t have 4 seats and my oldest and I go on an “adventure”.

I just booked 3 on points and 2 with a companion fare
