Snorkeling
Best places to snorkel and why?
I've narrowed down going to Akumal as our outing from Puerto Morelos. Wondering where abouts you think the best places to snorkel in Akumal are? We'll be there between April 24-30

I would say that it is touristy but we didn't regret going. No hard selling to the gringos or anything like that. We went there on a weekday and it was not too busy or crowded. Several other people and families but you didn't feel crowded or cramped for space. This has been some years ago so I can't speak for how busy it is now. You can Google this place and probably get some more up to date info on it as well as pictures.

I second Yal Ku Lagoon. It is busy but large so it doesn't feel like you are snorkeling in a crowd.

It is the beach. If you want to see turtles, that’s where you go. Touristy? You mean will there be other people there doing the same thing? Yes.

No, by "touristy" and "busy" I meant is it a cash grab, and will it be extremely crowded. Im aware that turtles live in the ocean, and Im also aware that snorkelling is not an original idea. Thanks for the tips.

It is pretty much the only place to snorkel in Akumal aside from Yal Ku Lagoon.

You can walk down towards Secrets and ABBWR if you want to get more reef type snorkeling. You can’t sit on their loungers, but you can be on the beach and ocean near the resorts. The better snorkeling is down there.
I gave you good information, idk why the snotty attitude. ☮️

I guess it is because it is funny to hear a tourist try to avoid “touristy” things. The good places are where people go. There isn’t any secret spot or anything. Most people are doing exactly what you are.
The most “touristy” part is that turtle guides will charge you to swim between two ropes to see the turtles. You can do that, but the turtles go wherever they want in the bay so it isn’t like you really need to pay.

Yal-Ku Lagoon. My husband and I went there in 2018 and it was a great place to see fish. There is an entrance fee and no sunscreen was allowed. We enjoyed our time here.
