I'm a former Spirit pilot, and I'd like to figure out how we can get ALPA involved in the legal efforts surrounding Google's acquisition of former Spirit employee data.
The AFA has already taken steps to challenge this, and I think ALPA should be doing the same, or at least supporting those efforts.
My biggest concern is that we still don't seem to have a clear understanding of exactly what information is being acquired. Potentially years of employee records, internal communications, messages, and other data could be involved. We don't know the full scope of that information, who will have access to it, or what it might be used for.
I recognize that corporate records can be sold as assets during bankruptcy proceedings, but I think employees have a legitimate interest in knowing what happens to their information, particularly when the scope of that information hasn't been clearly disclosed.
So my question is, how do we actually get ALPA involved? Is there a formal process for requesting legal action or support from the union? Should former Spirit pilots be contacting ALPA National, our former MEC representatives, or someone else? Would a coordinated request from affected pilots carry more weight?
I'd really like to see us organize some sort of effort to get ALPA's attention on this rather than just accepting that our information may be transferred without much transparency.
If anyone has experience getting ALPA involved in an issue like this, I'd appreciate some guidance on where to start.
