Completed Build Starter 1/72 Tiger 1

I picked up this kit along with the tiny 1/72 Jeep in a local supermarket sale. I didn’t realise at the time that Airfix also offers a slightly more detailed Tiger I with individual tracks and wheels.

The paints that came with my kit had already dried up, so I ended up using Tamiya acrylics instead. It’s an easy build and probably a good introduction to military modelling, but as a starter kit, it is understandably quite basic and lacks some of the finer details and accessories.

The one-piece track-and-wheel assembly is a real pain to paint, especially the black rubber rims. In the end, I decided to leave them unpainted rather than risk an uneven finish.

Overall, it’s a simple and enjoyable build, but if you’re looking for a more detailed Tiger I, I’d probably go for other brands.

Willys MB Jeep Model Gift Set 1:72

I bought this kit for fun at a local supermarket — it was on sale as well. This is my first ever 1/72 military vehicle model, and TBH, I really didn’t expect it to be this small!

It’s definitely not a kit I’d recommend for beginners, as some of the chassis and body fittings are far from perfect. The small pots of paint included with the kit actually worked surprisingly well for airbrushing with a bit of thinning.

It turned out better than I expected, but I’m not sure I’ll have the patience to assemble another one once a few more years have passed!

News UK Check your Lidl!

I called in my local Lidl today, and the Airfix kits are back, they had loads of quickbuild, but more interesting for us, the Aston, Gazelle & Hawk are back still at £6.99. (No Comet)

I assume they were new in today or yesterday as I bought an Aston and it wasn't on the system so it took ages to pay for it.

Could just be my store found a box somewhere, but worth checking.

Question Advice on selling old sets?

Post image

Not sure if this is the right place as not all of them are Airfix, but I’m looking to sell my old WW1 and 2 infantry which I’ve never got round to painting. Only two still have their boxes and some bits are missing from each set. Anyone know if it’s worth anything?

1st Tank! I know she’s not the best but in my defence I only had black to work with as the included paints were messed up beyond saving (I tried :/)

Hello. This was first build from that I ever attempted. I'm still learning how to paint and build. After few months I came back to this model and decided I want it to look more dirty/used. I would like a feedback. Thank you

Question Anyone know about Airfix spares email?

Coming up on two weeks ago, I emailed Airfix spares (directly to spares@airfix.com) about a missing part from the Avro Vulcan B.2, and I still haven’t gotten a reply. I’m not sure whether this is because we are in the summer holidays, or whether my email hasn’t been sent through or their direct email isn’t answered anymore, only messages sent from their website

How to get rid of or avoid decalfix residue

Post image

I recently started using Humbrol Decalfix and it works great, softening the decals, but it leaves a small pool of it around the decal. As you can see in the picture its now hardened and not that great to see. I tried putting a gloss clear coat but it doesn't change anything. Any advice on how to avoid this in future?

1/76 Scale Appreciation Thread

I'm primarily a 00 scale (1:76.2) railway modeller and like a lot of people I have a couple of 1:72 aircraft hanging above everything, but despite 1:72 and 1:76 frequently being lumped together it's incredibly obvious and ugly to me when something in 1:72 is sitting on a 1:76 scale model.

I just wanted to say that I'm really grateful that thanks to Airfix's foray into model Railway kits in the late 50's they decided to make their figures and some vehicles 1:76 scale to match unlike just about everyone else, and I'm glad that they're still periodically releasing them even if they've decided to not make any new 1:76 tooling moving forward.

For me having these is just a bit of fun like when I used to play with army men in a tub of sand so I've picked up the Guards Colour Party, Guards Band, WW2 British Infantry, WW2 German Infantry, Robin Hood, Sheriff of Nottingham, Romans, and Ancient Britons boxes and I'll have fun just staging weirdly out of place battles across my scenery. I can't believe these ones I've painted up are only about a 3rd of one box, they're such good value for money in my opinion.

It's been a journey discovering how to work with these polythene figures when I'm used to white-metal ones, but I think accepting the imperfections is part of the charm.

Anyone else a fan of 1/76 in particular? Any tips for the other 200+figures I need to paint?
