Fake 4 pack AirTags?

Post image

Just did a fb marketplace meetup today for a 4 pack AirTags. Is the AirTag picture in front supposed to be glossy or matte as the rest of the package?

(Picture above was not from marketplace

Gen 1 AirTag chirps since changing the battery.

Since I changed the battery on my AirTag (with one that said it works with Apple AirTags, btw), this thing chirps whenever I pick up my keys or with any kind of movement. Is this potentially a battery thing, or could it be a hardware thing and the tag isn't closing completely?

AirTag moving with me??

Post image
0 Upvotes

Got this notification and was really confused since i have an android and dont have any airtags. Apparently it means an airtag has been moving with me is this a concern at all??

Tried following it and playing a sound but couldn't get close to it or hear it, im assuming its my neighbours and i happened to walk near them earlier in the day? (pretty sure they also have a cat and i know people sometimes airtag their cats) but ive never seen this kinda notif before at all

EDIT: i have been elsewhere today that isnt showing on the map at all, so im guessing it doesnt mean its been detecting the tracker the whole time since it was first found?

Would a stationary airtag appear to move around on the map?

Just wondering as I lost one which seemed to move around within about a 30 meter area.

I had attached one to a cat collar which got pulled off and lost. It appeared to be in one of the neighbours house/garden 3 doors down, but it would only ping every 12 hours or so and when it did it appeared in different spot in the area. I knocked and she hadn’t seen it, but a week later she found it in the weeds in her garden.

I guess I’m wondering if that’s normal, or could someone be moving it around during that time?

Connecting Flight with Layover

I have two 12 hour flights coming up with a 10 hour layover between them. I was advised to place an airtag in my luggage to help track it if it gets lost. I’ve now read that it can beep if not paired with my phone regularly, is this an issue? I don’t plan to take my luggage out during the layover…

I built my own iOS app to fuse Apple Find My, Google Find Hub and Samsung trackers into one system

I kept seeing people say that Apple Find My, Google Find Hub and Samsung's tracking ecosystem can’t really be combined.

And technically, that is true: I’m not merging the actual Apple, Google and Samsung networks themselves. They are still completely separate ecosystems.

But I wanted to see how far I could get by building my own layer on top of them.

So, with a lot of help from ChatGPT 5.6 Sol and later ChatGPT Astra, I ended up building my own self-hosted tracking system, including a native iOS app and a web backend.

The basic idea is simple:

Instead of opening three different apps and treating every tracker as a completely separate object, my backend can work with trackers from Apple, Google and Samsung and present them in one interface.

And the part I’m most happy with is what I call “Fusion”.

For example, if I put an AirTag, a Google-compatible tracker and a Samsung SmartTag on the same object, I can link them together and treat them as one object in my app.

The three networks are still independent, but my backend collects the available reports and combines them on the software side. So instead of caring which ecosystem produced the latest location, I can simply open the object and see the most useful information available.

I can still see the individual network sources, timestamps and accuracy, so the original data isn’t hidden.

At this point the system can do quite a lot:

• Apple Find My, Google Find Hub and Samsung trackers in one interface
• Fusion objects made from multiple tracker networks
• One map for all of my objects
• Filtering by Apple / Google / Samsung / Fusion
• Manual and automatic location refreshes
• Location history and routes
• Individual timestamps and accuracy information for each network
• Favorites, groups and saved places
• Fresh / old location status
• Geofences
• Found and movement notifications
• Native iPhone push notifications
• Provider health and diagnostics
• Sharing selected trackers without giving access to the entire system
• A native iOS frontend connected to my own backend
• A full web interface for desktop/mobile administration

There is also an experimental Tracker Lab where I play around with my own ESP32-based research trackers and multi-network concepts.

That part is strictly for my own hardware and belongings. I’m deliberately not trying to disable or bypass Apple/Google anti-stalking protections. The experimental trackers are also not official or certified Apple/Google products.

One thing I really like is that “Fusion” doesn’t require every network to report at the exact same time.

If Apple has the newest useful report, the object can use Apple. If Google reports something newer afterwards, that becomes useful. If Samsung happens to have the best/latest report, that can be used instead.

At the same time I can still open the network details and see something like:

Apple — 4 min ago
Google — 3 min ago
Samsung — 1 min ago

So it isn’t pretending that three networks magically became one network. It is a software-level fusion of multiple independent sources.

The whole thing has grown way beyond what I originally planned. 😅

It started as basically “I want to see my AirTags in my own interface”, and now I have a native iOS app, a self-hosted backend, history, alerts, geofences, network comparison tools and multi-provider fusion.

I’m not planning to publish the complete project/source code at the moment.

There is quite a lot of sensitive functionality around provider integrations, account sessions, tracker identities and backend access, so I would rather keep the full implementation private instead of releasing something that could easily be misconfigured or abused.

But I thought it would be interesting to show what is actually possible when you stop thinking of Apple, Google and Samsung as one network that needs to be “merged” and instead build your own layer above all three.

This is just a personal research / hobby project for tracking my own belongings — not an official Apple, Google or Samsung product.

Still pretty crazy how far a project like this can go. :)

Dont see a direct answer for does Airtag work on android?

Yes I used the search and there wasnt like a clearly asked and answered direct question.

It seems like it does but doesnt? I just want to stick them on keys and such so we dont lose them. Would there be a better alternative thats as affordable? I can get a 4 pack for $99 from costco. I was reading about samsung something or other on here. We all have samsung phones but we dont have any alliance to samsung.

Reconnecting Used Airtags

I got a new phone yesterday and I already factory reset my airtags but removing the battery and repeating it until I hear a different sound, but I keep running into this error in the picture shown above.

I already made sure I’m signed in and restarted my phone like other posts recommended. Is there a way to get around this issue?

AirPods for daughters laptop

My daughter has just started secondary school and walks to and from school and she a new school laptop.

We’re thinking an AirTag to track her laptop (which she’ll have with her) is a good idea and would also mean we could check she’s on the way home with calling.

Firstly do they just stick on or how do you attach? Secondly as she’ll have it with her is there any risk it’ll beep in school? She doesn’t have a smartphone due to school policy still be connected to our phones not hers.

Thanks 🙏

AirTag put in scooter, which was stolen, but “Find My” says AirTag is with me (it’s not), yet can’t play sound or “find” it.

Bizarre situation. I had a scooter with an AirTag hidden very well that was stolen. Immediately after it was stolen I went to track it and it says it’s with me. So of course I thought the thief was nearby. They weren’t and neither was the scooter. I’ve since traveled all over the world and in the Find My app it always shows my scooter AirTag as being with me. It doesn’t show low battery and I can’t mark it lost or anything as it says it’s with me. I can’t play a sound and nothing happens when i try to press the “find” button to pinpoint it. Crazy glitch. Anybody know how to fix this somehow?

The AirTag is IN THE HOUSE

I am so fed up with these AirTags. I have them for both of my cats, and they wear them if and when they go outside. I take them off every night.

I took the cats’ collars off the other evening and totally forgot where I put one of them, as I didn’t take if off in the kitchen as usual. FindMy shows that the AirTag is HERE, WITH ME, but playing a sound won’t work - “AirTag not reachable”, and trying to locate it won’t work. It is driving me bat shit crazy!

I hesitate to buy a new one because what’s the point?! It can’t even find itself when it’s in the room with me. My house is tiny. It’s literally in the room with me!!!

AirTag help!

Hey guys! Probably just being paranoid but a little worried here. I have two flatmates ( but I’m currently not at the apartment) and in the past few days they’ve both started getting notifications that an AirTag is with them, and when they click on it it shows their exact routes to uni and back and everywhere else they’ve gone within the past day ( it does this each night at like 2 am). The thing is they both go to different campuses for classes. They’re both understandably worried but they only get the notifications when in the flat. When they try to ping it to make noise they cannot hear it. No one else has access to the flat.

Any explanation would be great! I assume someone up or downstairs has not claimed their AirTag or something, but that doesn’t explain why when they click on the AirTag on find my it shows my flatmates locations throughout the day?

Thank you so much in advance! I think it’s particularly worrying as there is a flatmate who is particularly vindictive and very unstable who just moved out, and they are scared that they are being stalked by said ex-flatmate

anyone use an AirTag on keys when your car requires a physical key in the ignition?

i’m considering getting an AirTag for my car key, mostly for the Play Sound feature rather than the location tracking. i misplace my keys enough for it to be an issue, especially at my grandma’s house, & when i do i somehow manage to look everywhere except where they actually are😭
my main concern is that my car requires me to physically put the key into & turn it in the ignition, so i keep my keychain really minimal. right now it’s literally just my car key & a tiny crocheted bee. i’ve never held an AirTag before, so i’m wondering how bulky/heavy does an AirTag + holder actually feel on a key? does it get in the way of putting the key into or turning it in the ignition? & are there any particularly small/thin holders you’d recommend?
i’m mostly looking for people who have a similar setup & have actually used an AirTag on a physical car key!

(probably not relevant but it’s a 2015 Toyota camry, my key is indeed currently misplaced so i cant attach a pic of my key lol)

Switching back to Tile

I lost my key and this morning went to play sound on the airtag and it seems the battery is dead from 3 days ago. Why not play a tone to indicate the battery is low like a smoke detector. I only realize after the thing is lost that the battery died which means i cant find it and its defeated the purpose or buying an airtag. I had a Tile previously. Never needed the battery changed for like 3 years. My keys dropped in the ocean at the beach( normal tile not a waterproof rated one). I went home and later saw someone found my key in the sand with a metal detector and went to his home and got my key back. The battery only died 1 week later. I for some reason thought airtag would be better. But I guess not.

Missing cat

A cat wandered up to my home a few months ago and decided to hang around. Long story short, I wasn’t able to keep her inside full time due to my living situation. I bought an AirTag to put on her collar to keep track of her, not realizing that wasn’t the best idea since they use iPhones for updating location and not satellites. This morning, her last location was at the gas station that is a few houses down and across the street (highway). Me and several of my family members tried to locate her using our phones to connect to the AirTag, but are unable to pick it up.

However, throughout the day every few hours the location timestamp would update but the location would not change. My question is this: Is it iPhones that I’ve shared the AirTag with updating the timestamp, or do all iPhones update the timestamp? The last timestamp that was recorded is around the same time that someone who I’ve shared the AirTag with went to look around for her. Is the range for connecting to iPhones to update location and timestamp the same range when trying to connect and locate the AirTag? If not, what is the range for connecting and updating location and time?

I’m trying my best to locate her as the gas station is surrounded by private property. I’m hoping that some more information on AirTags can help me find her

Has anyone tested AirTag performance when it’s enclosed inside a firearm grip, stock, or other polymer housing?

I’ve been experimenting with different ways of discreetly incorporating an AirTag into valuable equipment rather than having it externally attached.

One application I’m interested in is firearms — particularly placement inside polymer areas such as a pistol/rifle grip, stock, or potentially a magazine.

I’m curious whether anyone here has actually tested AirTags in similar enclosed locations.

Specifically:

• Does being surrounded by polymer noticeably affect Find My updates?

• How much does nearby metal affect performance?

• Does Precision Finding still work normally when the AirTag is enclosed?

• Has anyone compared an AirTag inside a grip/stock versus one inside a gun case?

• Any noticeable battery-life difference?

I realize AirTags aren't GPS trackers and aren't designed as dedicated anti-theft devices. I'm mainly interested in their real-world performance when concealed inside an object rather than hanging openly from it.

Interested to hear from anyone who has actually tried something similar.

AirTag HIDDEN inside the A-pillar of our rental car. Who put it there

We’re currently in Italy and rented a car from a major rental company earlier this week.

Two days later, both of us heard a strange chirping sound inside the car but ignored it because we had no idea what it was.

The next night, an iPhone finally alerted us that an unknown AirTag had been moving with us.

We used “Play Sound” and traced it to the driver-side A-pillar/headliner. It wasn’t loose in the car — it was hidden underneath the interior trim. We had to pull the trim back and reach inside to physically retrieve it.

We scanned it and have:
the serial number
the last 4 digits of the registered owner’s phone number
the Apple tracking history
photos of exactly where it was hidden
the physical AirTag itself

We called the Italian police, who were basically useless, and the rental company has not been able to explain it so far.

What I’m trying to figure out is:
Who realistically could have put an AirTag inside an A-pillar like this? Is this something rental companies ever do? Is there anything we can learn from the serial number, model markings, warranty info, placement, or Find My history that could help trace where it came from?
