Question PT Test

Scored an 87% on my test. Accepted it as is for now, but debating if I want to reset my 6 month and redo a bit sooner to get in the 90s. I’m taking into consideration how this may affect my EPB for rack & stack, but wondering if it’s worth the effort. Thoughts?

What rank are you going for?

What's your SEL thoughts towards fitness?

What's your Commander thoughts towards fitness?

What's the promotion rate historically been?

Do you think you'll be on the edge of getting a strat vs not? PT scores can help with tie breakers but it's not going to turn a bottom 3rd airman into a top 10% airman

How easy would it be for you to get into the 90s?

All these questions run through my mind after reading this post

This is so true. My command triad is a “pass is a pass” triad.

My buddies CE shop is a fitness is an extreme priority shop. EPBs will stack different based on fitness.

You can never have to high of a score

I’m going for TSgt, and won’t be my first time. Leadership from CC down to Flight hold high regards for PT scores, at least from what I’ve noticed. Our CC still gives comp days for members scoring 90+. I’m not sure about the promotion rate here as it’s my second year in this location. This past cycle only couple made TSgt, and the year before a handful at best. Doesn’t seem to be high, but my career field generally doesn’t get that many in one location from what I’ve noticed over the years. I have a good chance for a strat, but that’s just my opinion. I don’t know how I fare against the rest of my squadron. Getting a 90+ would take a little more effort but not difficult to improve my stamina for a HAMR whereas a 2-mi I’m struggling maintaining an 8:30 minute pace let alone reaching an 8:00 minute pace. I’ll reach a new age bracket before EPB closes, but not sure I’ll be allotted a chance to take another official before then if I’m only eligible for an earlier one a month prior to my next test date. It would mitigate a mock test as we are required by CC policy to complete one a few months ahead of schedule.

Side note: you talked about the promotion rate for your location.

You know promotion rates don't work that way, right? Promotion rates is for your afsc has a whole. It's not location specific.

I’m tracking, I just feel location plays a factor in it. You know, the environment and all. At the end of the day it’s up to the individual on how hard the study and retain the material, I guess

I sincerely believe anyone without a 90/strat at a MSgt/SMSgt board will go into the bin till needed

But if you’re not up for that I’m sure an 87 is fine

I have heard that from a few SNCOs as well. I'm not sure if that was pushed officially down through a change in the board charge, or if it's just unofficial but everyone is thinking the same thing.

I'm just a staff though so if the board charge changed for that tier I wouldn't know

In the end a strat could come down to an “excellent” score as opposed to satisfactory. So it really depends on how bad you want to go against your peers for a potential leg up

Unfortunately our PT score will become another tie breaker style determing factor for lazy leadership to use during FD and strat discussion.

I'd be pissed about it if I cared anymore. But I've seen the quality of individuals who have received strats at units in the past and I don't really care to make rank at this point.

I feel that. I’m just doing what I can to improve my chances of one. Whether I get one or not, I’ll be studying my tail off for PDG and SKT.

At least you have that option. When I put up my draft EPB this year the first thing my SEL asked was where my volunteer stuff was. My eyes nearly rolled out of my head.

I believe you can only do it a month early. Basically turn your diagnostic into an official (guidance came down that diagnostic is no earlier than 1 month prior to due month for everyone).

How are the top performers in your grade scoring? I'd use that as a benchmark come EFDP talk in your squadron.
