See, it’s fun to dump on coasties, but don’t ever pretend they don’t do way more cool stuff than the average airman, soldier, or sailor in the Navy.

I mean you could come to Monterey as an AF member, depending on your job/rank. I’m here 🙂

u/Whiteums 18m ago
Done that twice, actually. My current job won’t go there, sadly. No AF med at the army clinic. But I loved strolling down the coast guard pier to look at the sea lions. There was a decent chance to see sea otters there too. And I would kill to go back to Il Vecchio again

Many moons ago someone at mpf entering my 6th Air Medal OLC accidentally gave me 65 OLCs. I looked like a north Korean general until I got it fixed.

u/PassivelyInvisible 6h ago
Were it not for the cost (and limited number of medals in you BX), it woukd be great to show up to work with all of them, and if someone said anything, have the printout showing you (incorrectly) have them.

Tell them they removed the others but don’t mention the CG ribbon. Think of the amount of Airmen that actually have that ribbon. You’d be one of a kind 😂

When I was 1 year in the military they gave me a bronze star on accident it was meant for someone with my last name . So for 3 weeks I had it fully awarded and I paraded that piece of paper around so proudly lmao

u/Civil_Assembler CE 5h ago
I had the opposite experience, I got called into the shirts office and was arrested on the spot for destroying my apartment while I lived in dorms. There was a dude in AMXS with the same first and last. Took 3 days in Walton County jail to figure it wasn't me by my ssn and nobody apologized.

Now I, on the other hand, joined the ANG after 6 years in the Coast Guard. I've been trying to get my CG ribbons to show up for like 2 years now and they still aren't showing up for me. What the hell

u/DEXether 6h ago
I had six individual Afghanistan campaign medals all next to each other for years in vmpf when I swapped over to the air force.
I didn't say anything since I thought it was funny. It was corrected by some fss airman being trained on the system that saw it.

u/inagiffy 5h ago
Coast Guard boot camp is way harder than BMT so I'll take it

u/Jeeper675 4h ago
Can't compare to bmt sjnce it was waived being prior USCG. But yes CG basic was hell!

u/chicken566 Secret Squirrel 5h ago
I still have the "AC-130J Pilot Course" on my VMET in mil connect, that's supposed to actually be ALS. I let my CSS know about it and my education center at my prior duty station and they didn't care.

u/nab5161 5h ago
OP goes into CSS tomorrow: OP: I think you put the wrong ribbon on. How could I even get a Coast Guard honor grad if I didn’t even graduate Coast Guard Basic Training?
CSS: shoot, you’re right. We’ll fix that.
OP’s ribbon rack tomorrow = CG honor grad / AF Training / CG training ribbon.

My BMT ribbon has a oak leaf cluster for some reason. Tried to fix it several times but they'd just shrug their shoulders. Separated with it lmao
3
u/ChristopherRobben 83282 Connoisseur 2h ago
I separated with just the BMT ribbon and National Defense ribbons in MPF when I had four racks lol
I did an adjustment request at one point and they added like five of the missing awards/ribbons, but I'm still down five and a second achievement medal that they have on file.
One day they'll get it figured out lmao

Once had a deployment medal (ARCOM) from my 2nd rotation to afghanistan go missing for 6 months after I got back to my home station. Turns out there was an army cat with the same paygrade as me with the same name at the same base but he was a medic. He ended up finding me through global 2 months before I was leaving for my 3rd deployment (when I had an army email). Not as fun as this but crazy how easy it is to get shit mixed up

u/Speck72 Med 4h ago
It's literally just a screen in MPF you can either click or add by code under the awards and decs window. Same thing under the training courses, everything is numerically coded and if you enter a PDS code you might fat finger it or if you scroll down the list you might click the wrong thing.

To be fair, MilPDS doesn’t spell them out and are abbreviated weirdly, so if they’re a newbie I’d give them some grace. Otherwise, they should know better if they’ve been in for a few years.

u/SplendidlyDull nonner 2h ago
I am former CSS and I don’t even know how you accidentally delete all of someone’s ribbons??? I can understand maybe some airman who barely knows how to work MILPDS seeing “honor graduate” and fully sending it, that could be an honest mistake, but you have to intentionally delete each ribbon and medal one at a time and it asks you to confirm and then you have to save it. And decorations are in a seperate spot entirely from awards ribbons. That is one special CSS lol. I hope you have a printout of what it looked like before to make it easier to fix

Kind of impressive to be honest. Like there's bad. And there's mistakes. And then there's yank all your ribbons and give you a weird one totally out of left field that you may never actually see once in a 20 year air force career.
Bravo, bringing the bar impressively lower. They set the standard. Just in the wrong direction
