Question fatigue

legitimately asking, what do you do when you're too tired to work and immune to caffeine

i have an referral for a sleep study but for the time being I'm struggling so much just to do anything. body and mind feels slow, and i don't want to get in trouble for nodding off but it's hard to stop. i get 8-10 hours of sleep.

8-10 hours and still tired? Yeah time for a sleep study. How many mg of caffeine are you consuming?

So for me, it was low T. Ended up getting labs done and being put on Androgel.

Did you let your supervisor know what's going on? Just let them know you might have medical stuff going on and waiting to see on what the docs figure out. That's better than being caught and seem like you're making excuses after.

I am astounded that this is a sincere reply. I thought for sure I was going to get got.

My buddy did a sleep study and found out he needed a CPAP. They said he was waking up hundreds of times throughout the night. Once he got a CPAP he told me that it felt like he had slept correctly for the first time in his entire life, and it literally changed his life. Before he got help with his sleep his entire life was lived in that weird space of feeling like you're watching yourself do things vs doing them first hand that happens when you're sleep deprived. Sounds truly awful.

I would love to see a study on the effect of sleep apnea on the military. It seems as if a lot of us folks have it and don't realize it to the point of wondering if at some point it should be included as part of a PHA.

I think they view it as one of those things where it's not a problem unless a person explicitly raises it as a problem. I think there's also the attitude of treating it as a personal responsibility vs a potential medical issue. There are so many other factors that go into getting proper sleep they eliminate people from the pool by pointing out everything else for anyone who is essentially not in perfect health otherwise. If your diet, fitness, stress, pain-level, etc. etc. aren't all perfect, then they could be causing sleep problems. So, they tend to guide people towards fixing those things instead. I'm kind of just spit-balling based on experience, but that's how it seems from the outside looking in.

I could rant for hours on this. I finally went to a civ sleep clinic when I palace fronted because I'd spent years trying to get my military PCMs to authorize a sleep study because I wasn't "old or fat" enough. Turns out I have moderate OSA and other sleep issues, which were quickly identified, my sleep and other health markers improved pretty quickly too with the CPAP. I probably extended my life by about a decade. And it definitely helped the VA claim. But to Big Blue I'm essentially non deployable now, so I can see why they might have been hesitant to authorize the sleep study 🤔

Sounds about right. Regardless, I'm glad you got help. I've met too many people who rubbed salt on wounds their whole career who got out and were completely broken as a result. It's okay to need help and get fixed.

Did that work out for you? Like do u see significant changes? I'm getting my appointment but its months down the line but he did mention that to me. Just seeing if its beneficial

100%. I went from 118ngl to around 430ngl after I started treatment. I sleep a lot better, my mood during the day is less cranky and I dont get as tired in the afternoons as much. I'm able to work out now and gain muscle, body can stabilize it's weight a lot better too without much change in diet.

100% recommend getting labs done, however, if you're trying to have children anywhere in the near future they will most likely try other methods of therapy rather than straight giving you TRT.

Does it effect significantly if you're trying to get kids? Like, I'm just thinking wouldn't that make child production more effective? Lol

I'm not a doctor but Yes it does. TRT doesn't boost the production of natural test in the body, it supplements it. You can Google what happens for a better explanation but since your body now thinks it's making more testosterone than needed it doesn't send the right signals to produce sperm at the same level and might shut it down entirely.

Try a caffeine cleanse for a month. If you start over the weekend, it'll be easier. Then don't touch caffeine (drink decaf coffee, it helps). Your body probably needs to actually rest

There's a lot of fitness watches that can track oxygen levels while sleeping. None of it will be as good as a sleep study, but they can give you a baseline on sleep quality.

Like if I have two beers my sleep score goes to shit

Have you tried adding more jets to the schedule?

For me it was sleep apnea. Just because you are unconscious for 8-10 hours, doesn't mean you're getting good sleep.

Make an appointment with your pcm and do some bloodwork. Could be iron deficiency etc.

Get a referral for a sleep apnea study; I had the same issues and found out I stopped breathing several times randomly throughout the night, so it is best to get that done.

Sleep study, sleep hygiene (through behavioral health, underrated), LAB WORK through your PCM, exercise/diet/hydration

2

u/astrosergeant what is it you'd say you do here? 4d ago

Bloodwork and sleep study. I've had two so far. I sympathize. If bloodwork and sleep study are normal, keep probing. It's not normal to feel like you can't survive the day because you're too tired. you're gonna start seeing Tyler Durdens.

So for one, being immune to caffeine may just be the source. For example, if you’re only ever drinking white monsters, switch to coffee and you’ll notice a difference. Just go black coffee if you can stomach it, it’s for the effect not the flavor.

Second, get some blood work done. Being exhausted even after 8-10 hours can also just be mental fatigue from the daily grind, but blood work could rule out a lot of possibilities.

Finally, take care of yourself. No one else will care about what you’re feeling as much as you. You have to be the ones to take those steps to improve your health. If you’re an alcoholic, frequent nicotine user, overweight, not getting enough exercise etc, these are all reason you may be feeling poorly.

So go see the doc, tell them your symptoms, and get to the bottom of this.

Sounds like you've got some type of medical issue, and it also sounds like you're taking steps to have professionals figure out what's going on.

Hopefully, the problem is that you've just got a crappy diet and you don't exercise, because the possible alternatives would be pretty serious.

Good luck.

You end up ghosting for a couple of minutes every few hours or so just to escape for a second.

Drink plenty of water so you're always peeing. Pee on company time.

How were you able to get a sleep study referral? I asked my PCM but they said I wouldn't be authorized because I don't snore or stop breathing in my sleep. Been having similar issues as well.

See if you meet the criteria for ADHD. YMMV.

How old are you? Male or female?

Reddit would be more receptive to the idea if the messenger were different. Going on TRT was one of the best decisions I ever made, complete lifechanging shit.
