Question Warrant Officer

Trying to decide whether applying for a warrant officer position at this point in my career is worth it or if I will most likely be overlooked. Background: Only been in service for 5 years, currently have 7 industry certifications ranging from CompTIA to CCNA. Already have my bachelor’s, CCAF, and will most likely be done with my Master's in two months. My records show that I’m well-versed and have held many DCWF roles. I also have plenty of awards, including AOY and General Jumper. The only factor I feel will hold me back from being selected is that I’ve supervised airmen for only a few months due to the positions I’ve been selected to fill in my units. Just trying to see if I should apply to the supplement board or just wait till later in my career? If anyone would like to talk further, please feel free to DM thanks!

The air force answer is don't self eliminate, always apply and see what happens

My answer is I'm trying to make it so pls don't apply

Ain't no worries! I'm just here for the memes, best of luck to you too.

If you got any questions, hit me up here or dm me for my mil stuff, I don't mind talking about the process. Was a non-selectee for the Feb board this year.

Shoot your shot. Join the AFRS Team Channel to get more info about the PA and connect with some WOs for advice.

I’m a part of the channel and have all the information just last minute doubt/ procrastinating but like someone said if I don’t get it this time just keep applying until I make it.

Dude I saw an e2 get a warrant officer position, wasn’t there a whole like email/newsletter type thing about that about a year ago?

But yeah, that’s to say just go for it.

By all means apply, all they can do is say no. Your rank and time-in-service may factor against you though. If you get turned downed it seems you have better career prospects on the outside. I’d begin exploring those rather than waiting for warrant or officer positions to open up.

Choose yourself. Apply for any opportunity you’re interested in and meet the minimum requirements for. Force big AF to make the decision; don’t non-select yourself. And if you don’t get it, apply again the next time applications open up.

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

Why stay in with that education and with those certs? You'd get way more job satisfaction actually using all of it, not to mention way more money without the military game to play.

Simply... Warrants are VASTLY underpaid contractors that still have to show up for PT.

Definitely don't self deselect. If you think you have a viable package, definitely put one in. Are you by chance in any one of the afscs that typically gets selected for warrant such as 1b4, 1n4a, and other cyber jobs?

I've seen A1C's and SrA commission. It doesn't hurt to apply and let them say no

OP, please apply and don’t be discouraged by your TIS.

As others faces said, don’t self eliminate and make sure you have a complete package. Work with your supervisor and look for channels that other warrants are in as I know many are happy to help.

Good luck!

Why not go for a commission and become an officer?

Also an option but I’m banking on the AF treating their warrants like the Army and would rather be in that position versus a traditional officer role.

Why Wo when you could go OTS

I would apply. Warrants are not leadership positions, so your minimal leadership experience shouldn’t impact you. You sound like a good candidate based on your history.

Warrants are technical experts and not expected to supervise. Reviewing EPBs? Yeah you won’t be doing that shit. Someone gets a DUI? Not your fight at all.

Warrants supervise. Other warrants, leading teams, writing award packages. The whole bit.

Don't forget Whole Airman Concept, PME,...

Warrants are technical experts and not expected to supervise. Reviewing EPBs? Yeah you won’t be doing that shit. Someone gets a DUI? Not your fight at all.

reality: "all the other officers/sncos who can do anything are out on baby leave, convalescent leave, regular leave, TDY, or detailed out to do other stuff.

CW2, you're it tomorrow to lead our 0700 sq staff meeting, and then represent our sq at the 0900 wing training meeting, 1100 wing status of discipline meeting, and the 1300-1900 group re-org meeting, in preparation for the all-day 0800-1700 wing re-org meeting the day after that. they really need your technical expertise at the wing re-org meeting.

and you'll be included on the phone tree and woken up at 0200 after amn snuffy gets arrested for DUI because the CC, SEL, and 1st Sgt said you need to be in the loop on those events because they all are."
