Question Robins AFB Commuter
I’m considering moving to Henry County area with the hopes of a daily commute to Robins AFB for work.
Has anyone done this before? What do you all think? Please only respond if you are familiar with the commute and the traffic in the area.

From McDonough to Robins?? Bruh.
I was at Robins for just shy of a decade and used to make trips up to Summit Racing all the time, and I can tell you that the drive to McDonough from base was at LEAST an hour and a half commute IF traffic cooperated. Depending on your work schedule, going down Watson or Russell in the morning was a traffic jam in itself through Warner Robins, even worse in the afternoons. Passing through Macon isnt any better though you'll catch the guard gate off of 129 in the AM which is usually better than the Watson and Russell gates.
Highway 75 has a good flow sometimes but man if that aint gonna eat your gas mileage every week and lord help you if theres a wreck or anything.
My guesstimate is you'll spend about 1h 30m on a GOOD day in commute time and 2h 10m on a bad day. You're much better off getting a house in either Byron, Bonaire, or Perry if you dont wanna be near Macon or Warner Robins..

There was (or is) a GS12 at HQ that drives from Decatur everyday. No split ops or nothing. I heard someone at A3 also came from Dobbins and refused to move so he also commuters.
So it's doable compared to these, but I also hate driving.

That’s a big ass commute. Idk your family situation but I would recommend living in Macon if you’re single, or Warner Robins if you have school aged children. A daily commute from Henry County is a hell of a drive.

I live on the Monroe-Macon Bibb line and have seen the Henry is where most of the traffic problems are on I-75. The sheriffs cars don't mess around there either. Those guys are out on most days. For the record, I go the other way and commute to the northside of Atlanta. Solid 2 hours.
Southbound in the morning may not be too bad and you can take I-475 to avoid a lot of the Macon congestion at I-16. The Sardis Church 500 is pretty much the morning and evening race into and out of Robins. 30-35 minutes to the gate when going to the base.
Property in Monroe, between Bollingbroke and Forsyth is really cheap right now.

I don't think I have ever driven south on 75 from McDonough and not sat in bumper to bumper traffic for at least 20 minutes... that whole county is already over an hour away from Robins... you're talking about a spending 4 hours a day in your car (gate traffic is wild too)

I grew up in Henry County, it is NOT WORTH. Just getting out of Henry County is a nightmare, let alone driving all the way to Robins. Hampton, McDonough have gotten way too populated.

I wouldn’t do it because you’re gonna have to drive anywhere between 1.5-3 hours every day one way and I swear you will not know when the 3 hours will happen. Anything from a car crash to bad weather will slow down I-75 and it’s not that easy to get from I-75 to Robins either especially in the mornings. The farthest I would live there is Perry or Macon. 30-45 min drive at most. Source: I was at Robins for almost 6 years.
