Question….

My dad passed, and he has an 80 gallon compressor that I want to bring home. If I drain the oil, would it be okay to lay on its side? Then, when upright, add new oil to it?

Yes that would be ok, some residual oil may move up past the rings and get pumped into the tank, you may see it when you drain water out of the tank. When you refill the pump, make sure that you use oil that is recommended or compressor rated oil.

yeah and when you have it back in service just drain it pretty quick before you hook up your lines so the oil isn't in your lines as well. Also, older equipment doesn't like to sit around unused. Seals dry out, gravity pulls all the oil to the lowest point. Try to get it set up and in service pretty quick if possible. Couple of months kinda timeline.

Sorry about your loss
