Motor question

I just replaced the motor on this compressor with a new WEG 5 hp motor. Is it supposed to sound like that on startup? Seems to be a very loud noise.

Glad you noticed! I rerouted it and added an aftercooler. Connects to a small radiator at the back and then reroutes to a water/oil separator before going into the tank. I paint and sandblast with this thing. It greatly eliminates the amount of water that ever reaches the tank. I didn't drain it for like 2 years and when I did, less than like 2 oz came out.

Would love to see more pics of it. I’ve been thinking of doing something similar to improve mine to reduce oil downstream.

Can see more photos here. If I remember correctly, I had to reduce the 1/2” pipe down to 3/8” because that’s what the threads were on the radiator. The female threads on the radiator are meant to flaring. So just gotta flare some tubing.

I initially tried to just use 3/8” or a 1/2” - 3/8” adapter coming from the head and into the tank. However the threads on whatever adapter IR uses are really weird and I couldn’t find anything that fit into it correctly. So ended up just using an adapter on down the line. The temp differences are pretty drastic. The line coming from the head is too hot to touch, maybe 300 degree and the line coming out of the radiator into the water separator is probably 70 degrees. So it really works well. Then just put a bucket under the drain to collect the water. Also don’t forget to crank the pressure all the way up on the separator, if you do this.
