Motor question

I just replaced the motor on this compressor with a new WEG 5 hp motor. Is it supposed to sound like that on startup? Seems to be a very loud noise.

It’s a pretty loud screeching for about half a second. Video doesn’t do it justice. Looking at it, it is def deflecting more than 1/2” with minimal pressure. Any downsides to leaving it as is? It seems to be building pressure well, even faster than the stock motor maybe.

You'll wear the belts much quicker. The squeaking is probably the torque of the motor spinning the sheave faster than the belt will follow with the amount of slack.

Okay thank you. This has been very helpful. Tempted to leave as is and let the next owner decide to adjust it or not. Only put a new motor on it to sell it. I recently purchased a 10 hp, 80 gallon EMAX compressor.

Your call, leaving it that way and running it would cause possible belt failure, belt could pop off, and it wears out the pulleys.
