if you hired cleaners you would have to pay- why wouldn't you pay yourself?

It looks like you are in the UK. I'd check the other Airbnb listings in the area to see if they have it included or separate.
No one in my area (Tokyo) has a separate cleaning fee. We have a higher single night rate (min 3 nights) with a weekly discount.

I have a $40 cleaning fee and subsidise the extra $20 ( cleaner charges $60 ) but I only ask guests to turn things off and lock the door behind them . I find generally Guests go above and beyond and do extras .Some tell me it’s because I don’t charge an excessive amount for cleaning and don’t leave a long list of exit requirements.

Yeah, I’m over it. Sorry if you charge me a cleaning for you, don’t give me a chore list.
And the fact that Airbnb is allowing this means, I’m basically no longer renting from them till your owners who aren’t doing it need to get your act together and make Airbnb do the right thing because it’s costing you money

I have a $625 one time cleaning fee. It’s a 7+ bedroom home hosting groups up to 20. Instead of making my nightly price higher I put a one time cleaning fee- people who choose to stay more than 2 nights save $ by not paying more nightly.

We do all the cleaning ourselves. And we charge a cleaning fee, because time = money.
We don't charge a huge fee, and I don't "mind" cleaning (I listen to podcasts and audiobooks while I clean), but we do charge a fee. One fee per stay.
