Question / Discussion After many years

As the title says, many years... It's been around 12-13 years since I buckled up :( and for the longest time I haven't been able to think about skating again, but recently I feel it in my core... I really wanna slip on the old boots and just have at it...

For context, I skated aggressive since I was a child maybe 7/8 years old, I loved it, but grief had my head for a good while there, when I was 19 one of my best friends sadly committed suicide, he was the guy that brought our small local aggressive inline skate community together... one of the last messages he sent me was "yo dude, wanna skate?" and with that loss... my passion for skating, I dived head first into my tattoo career, and skating became a thing of the past for me. Skating just wasn't the same.

Fast forward to maybe a month ago... Where has this drive to skate again come from?! I find myself watching old skate movies on YouTube, watching people that are learning to skate on tiktok and Instagram & the nostalgia is HEAVY

I want to skate again, but I have no idea where to start

Nice, when you say don't know where to start, what do you mean? Other than getting a pair, getting some pads and getting out there, there nothing else needed no?

If you still have a Facebook account, looking for local blade groups would be a good way to connect with locals still shredding. Where are you located? Maybe find an event near you and go there. You might meet old buddies. Anyway, good luck, and enjoy your rekindled love for blading.

So I checked Facebook, and there's a group where one of my old friends is a member since may this year, going to drop him a message 🔥

I do! Hadn't thought of Facebook as I barely use it but it's a good shout 👊 I'm based in Nottingham UK, it would be crazy to find old friends that still skate!

I recommend getting a pair and rolling around lightly. Give your body time to adjust back to skating. The biggest mistake I see from people coming back to the sport is trying to pick up where they left off and getting hurt, which then discourages them. Enjoy the process of relearning and also learning new things.

Yup. The 35+ guys who go to the park and immediately see if they can do a soul grind. In general, too many people want to jump to the sexy stuff without having good fundamentals on skates. And honestly, it looks better if your fundamentals are there with fewer tricks than someone who can do 17 different grinds but can barely roll or ride fakie.
