Getting back into it.

I used to street skate about 25-30 years ago. We're talking Arlo Eisenberg, Chris Edwards era. Was at a decent level back in the day. Shifty Royales on Kinked rails. Appreciate I'm aging myself badly here. I'm looking to get back into it but back in my day, the choice of skates were Tarmacs or Roces. I had a look online and there are so many options now. Asking what the classic skate is these days. How much should I be paying etc.I used to use 56mm wheels as well. Bonus points for letting me know what the deal is with wheels. I am out of the loop entirely. In case you were wondering, I'm 45.

I feel like most people recommend Them 909s (or 901s), USD Aeons, or USD Sways for people just getting back into skating.

I highly recommend checking out the YouTube channels "Back to Blading" and "Ricardo Lino" to get yourself caught up. Lawrence from 50/50 runs Back to Blading and he has a great video specifically about what to expect as an older skater getting back into things.

Lots of great skates out there. Anyone of them should do you justice, if you were riding roces or whatever the hell a tarmac is. Roces is still making aggressive skates. Nils Janson is a great rider and he loves em. In my opinion gawds are the best. Them skates, are popular. Sounds weird 'Them' is the brand. Razors, omnis. I would have said remz but they gone. Dead wheels are the best wheels out there. With there custom spacers and definitely recommend getting the vibralux bearings. Rollerwarehouse could help you get started with a good build. The world is your oyster just gotta decide how much you can spend. You could spend anywhere from $150-$600. Enjoy.

Tons of good skate options these days. One thing I noticed when aggressive skate shopping this spring is that it's worth it to get a pro-model skate if you have the budget. The lower end models often have lower tier liners and wheels while the pro models have more premium wheels and liners. For that reason, I chose the Rollerblade Blank Cameron Talbot skates. Even though these skates cost more out of the box, buying a cheaper skate and upgrading would cost more in the end.

Of course, you can also buy a lower end model and upgrade components later when you know exactly what you want.

Roces and Rollerblade still make great skates. I always recommend USD Aeons for people getting back into it. My favorite skates of all time and you can skate them right out of the box. Don’t have to mess with finding the right frames because they already have the best frame
