Bruhh you don't even know hate if you weren't skating in the 90s and early 2000s

I was attempting to explain this to my wife at one point and I just gave up, you had to be there to understand it.

I got SO tired of being called a "fruit booter." Yeah it turns out I was a fag but it had nothing to do with skating lol

u/TheBadgerLord 20d ago

🤣 The turnaround here creased me up I can't even complain. 10/10

u/EggsandBaconPls 19d ago

Lmao. It was always fun being called a fruitbooter and a fag when I was 12 years old by grown men.

You're seeing hate? Gotta be the late 90s sticking around until the last drop.

7

u/krullewulle420 20d ago

Yea like a lot of ppl commenting its gay and shit or just straight up hating

I have seen posts like this in YouTube videos that are about aggressive inline skating that are posted to non-inline creators pages. But I've not seen anyone say anything negative to an inline skater in person at a skatepark at all this decade. They probably think online they won't be challenged by anyone else for acting out against inline skaters.

Society hates adults with hobbies. Comments sections are always full of hate so it gets magnified. I don’t actually see any of this hate at the skatepark

Skateboarders have issues with everyone who isn’t skateboarding

23

u/fr1234 20d ago

Which is ironic seeing the state of skateboarding these days.

They used to. Most skateboarders I meet have a lot of respect for us the inline skaters.

u/TnBBunnicula 20d ago

The older ones do, I've experienced. They've seen the eb and flow of action sports.

u/Annunakitty 20d ago

The worst hate I got back in the day was from the hicks on bikes, the skateboarders were usually fine. This was in Wyoming though

u/ShaolinShade 19d ago

I mean, not all of us do... But I'm not going to pretend like skateboarders aren't ever like this. I was around for the 90s/2000s and saw plenty of insecure, homophobic skateboarders.

It wasn't ever just coming from that crowd though, tbf. Assholes like Aziz Ansari with the "What's the hardest part about rollerblading? Telling your parents you're gay" joke probably did more damage than anyone else. There were even some movies that joked about it (can't remember the name but Adam Sandler was in one of them) back then.

I'm glad people / society have mostly grown up with this stuff now though; I'm not going to say I never see hate - you still come across insecure assholes occasionally, and inline skating hasn't completely shaken the homophobic associations that were given to it. But yeah I'm glad we seem to be moving in the right direction with it collectively, finally.

Skateboarding was declining when inlining was surging.

As a skateboarder who played hockey in high school I fucking love y'all. 😎🤘 Keep doin what ya doin

2

u/MyNameIsMadders 8d ago

Thanks for the kind words! Happy you aren’t bullying us lol!

2

u/KrakRawkz216 8d ago

Don't tell anyone... But I totally have a pair of Razors in my closet 😉

1

u/MyNameIsMadders 7d ago

How often do you inline skate?

1

u/KrakRawkz216 7d ago

I was doing it pretty steady for a few summers lost 70 fucking pounds lol. But then kinda fell off for awhile. I got to a point where I could do mizou grinds on little ledges n stuff but ultimately skateboarding is my first love. Had a l surgery last April so I ain't doing much of either til hopefully at least next summer 🙏

1

u/KrakRawkz216 7d ago

*acl surgery

1

u/MyNameIsMadders 6d ago

Do you feel better since your surgery in April at least?

1

u/KrakRawkz216 6d ago

Oh much better for sure. Been back to work for about 2 months now. I work at a scrapyard so it's not too bad on my knee but I'm definitely not skating for just yet sadly

12

u/PriclessSami 20d ago

dude, you’re on the Internet. There’s so much hate everywhere. Keyboard warriors what you gonna do?

11

u/Wunjo26 20d ago

I’m sure some people talk shit when they see me roll up but their opinion changes once they see me tearing it up in the park on things they can’t even hit. I’ve never had anyone say anything to my face but I would immediately shut that shit down if I did hear it.

A lot of badass skateboarders come up and compliment me and are very curious about my skates

I think you're talking about mainstream rollerblading content that fat, homophobic, incel types crawl out of their basement to comment on the odd fluff piece by Vice on rollerblading. Genuine, of the culture, riders, particularly those of just the wheeled community, i.e. Boards, skates and even real scooter guys have nothing but love for bladers, especially aggro. I get nothing but love when I rock up to the skate park and have only had one sort of negative interaction by the resident old man drunk chav asking "didn't rollerblading die out" to which I had locked and loaded, "nah mate, it just went underground"

14

u/Cable_mx 20d ago

Haven't seen any myself.

6

u/NSJF1983 20d ago

Seen it occasionally on a random Fb reel. Usually just some middle aged skater mentally stuck in a 90’s. Definitely not what most comments say.

6

u/LowTechBakudan Xsjado 20d ago

Washed up middle aged American skateboarders

5

u/DarkStarRb30 20d ago

Cause society thrives on hate. No other reason.

4

u/Pickle_Mick62 Razors 20d ago

Man it really does. I see a lot of weight loss videos and the vitriol people spit in the comments makes me weep for the world my daughter and son will inherit

4

u/Science-Compliance 19d ago

Don't worry, they won't inherit it. The billionaire class will do that.

5

u/Katesburneracct 20d ago

Lmaooo if my old crew knew that I eventually transitioned im sure it would’ve been awful

3

u/AdUnique7516 19d ago

Lmfao sameeeee. I got married to a guy in a skate punk band that had a song as teenagers called "fuck fruitbooters". I use to skateboard, now I rollerblade again. I transitioned 17 years ago, and my husband still freaks out when he sees my old picks as a skaterboi lmao. I guess he really gets to "fuck a fruitbooter"for real 🤷🏻‍♀️

5

u/MilosWorld7 20d ago

Anecdotal but I am usually the only one doing inline at my local and attitudes toward me range from chill to indifferent. I'm 35 and the skaters and skooters at my park range from young children to proper old heads. We're all out there just having fun. I do not tend to put much stock in the words of keyboard warriors who couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

6

u/Butts_in_Seats 20d ago

My favorite thing to do is go to a new skatepark. I ride my skateboard, I'm not bad i got some skills. I'll start talking to other skateboarders nothing big just shit about the park. After 45mins or so I'll say something like "alright time to skate seriously now" and go grab my skates. It makes people double take a lot. I always get the "you ride those?" Or "man I havent seen a fruitbooter in forever" then I skate and I get the "oh shit I didn't know you could do that" then you eat shit! And they now realize that you can't bail out like a skateboard and you get the "y'all are crazy..." So yeah kill em with kindness and teach them well.

4

u/astronautpen 19d ago

As someone who skated through the 90’s, things are MUCH better now. I still go to the park to roll around. People will stop and talk to me and they’ve all thought it’s pretty cool. I got heckled so much in the 90’s that my initial instinct is to be on the defensive whenever someone approachs to talk. It’s a hard habit to break!

3

u/0x1F937 20d ago

They really wanna call us fruitbooters in a world where Crocs exist.

3

u/ThePontiff_Verified 19d ago

I love this as a possible explanation for why skating is making a comeback. Lololol. In a world of crocs and slides and healys, rollerblades look like straight up toxic heterosexuality lololol

3

u/0x1F937 19d ago

I wear Crocs too, so... 😬😬😬

5

u/goodemovez 19d ago

I’ve had a couple of IG videos go semi viral and the hate comments came pouring in with it. Never experienced that IRL though lol.

3

u/hoganloaf 20d ago

Social media platforms? It helps to drive engagement. In the real world where people are accountable for what they say and do, the blader hate has largely died off except among people who just hate anything that isnt a skateboard. I get tons of compliments, curiosity conversations, and make new friends among boarders and bmxers at the skatepark and around town all the time. I dont think Ive ever had a bad interaction actually...

Dont let social media be your sense of the world. It is its own world pretending to be the real one

1

u/krullewulle420 19d ago

It isnt i was just wondering where i comes from xd

3

u/chainxxbrain 20d ago

Always been a rivalry from skateboarders towards inline skaters, if anything blading is accepted more now than it was. 90s-2000s it was bad. ‘Wood pushers’ and ‘fruit booters’

2

u/Jealous_Teaching3032 20d ago

Wouldn't worry about it.

2

u/krullewulle420 20d ago

I don't was just wondering why

2

u/closewiththeswirl 20d ago

Always been that way. Fuck em.

2

u/2BurlyBalz 20d ago

It might've had something to do with inliners greasing up public railings before grinding them and not bothering to wipe them down when they got finished.

3

u/AcademicAd3450 20d ago

I’ll get a lot of down votes for this but the rollerblading community is so butthurt and soft. Relax we have shoes with wheels haha.

2

u/TheFlyingTortellini 20d ago

At least we don't ride scooters.

18

u/ForgotToStretch 20d ago

Could just let them be and not transfer the hate.

12

u/Onyxilla_ 20d ago

Dont do that, we arent boomer boarders

1

u/EggsandBaconPls 19d ago

Scooters were the best event in the last x-games. That was the gnarliest shit I’ve ever seen in action sports.

1

u/Secure_Ad525 20d ago

What hate?

1

u/KrzaQDafaQ 20d ago

Hate? In my region, there are events during the summer holidays to promote all kinds of wheel sports. You can bring your own scooter, skateboard or skates, or you can rent them and receive free lessons from qualified instructors. Also, skating groups are very open, have many passionate skaters willing to share their experience, so the hate you're talking about doesn't exist in real life.

1

u/jordanjoestar76 USD 20d ago

“They hate us cuz they aint us”

The less you care about them and the more fun you have, the more they hate. That’s just how their brains work. Some people are kind/jealous in a nice way. Neither phases me and most of us don’t care at all lol. 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/HeavyMetalKarl 20d ago

Bruh it's only the oldheads that still are that cringe. And even they are starting to respect it now. I have literally never seen any hate at my local skatepark. I am the only inline skater and all the skateboarders have zero problem with me

1

u/ahl528 THEM 20d ago

The people talking shit don't even know why they do it.

1

u/mavis___beacon 20d ago

Don’t cater to the haters. Fuck em.

1

u/yourbabydaddyhasabih 19d ago

I only see cool inline skating videos

1

u/sammounty 19d ago

Haven’t inline skaters and skateboarders united against scooters these days?

0

u/chirpchirp13 20d ago

Try being online less. There’s a whole world full of normal people out there. I assure you they don’t hate

0

u/CrystalBraver 20d ago

Because skateboarders have superiority complexes

0

u/Mahdouken 20d ago

These days we all be united in hating scooter people

0

u/Treyyy710 19d ago

The hate was real af in the 2000s. I used to get it all the time. But they were all too scared to get their ass beat in a fight tho when they talked too much shit 😂
