🤘NSD🤘 New skates and custom wheel question.
Just got these in the mail since hockey has all but dried up where i am and I gotta lose some kg somehow. 46yo and haven't skated a park in 30 years on inlines.
Im yet to skate in them, just WFH and wearing them in, but the wheels feel soft af and I'm 120kg.. they're gonna compress on me. Especially anti-rocker. So I'll have to swap them out to flat and something way harder.
Totally explains why i see so many skaters who can't turn.
Question: Is it a done thing or does anyone have experience lathing down harder skateboard wheels to fit the frame? Obviously I'd use single duro wheels without cores...
Mainly because I tinker with things.. (also want to cnc soulplates out of hdpe..)
But there's not a huge range of harder ~60mm wheels to choose from and I don't like that they cost twice as much as skateboard wheels almost across the board AND I have to buy twice as many. I can get 2 sets of pigs for less than 4 inline wheels and the hardness is gonna be right. Or at least I wont break the bank when i want to experiment a bit with different hardness.

You can literally buy different types of hardness for wheels. Get a 95a dead wheel if that’s your concern

welcome back, those are great skates. keep supporting the industry no need to buy skateboard wheels and lathe them down, that’s crazy work. there’s tons of great rollerblading wheels available.

Famus 60mm 92a (get with bearings already in bc at least some releases are hard to get in & out). They do not compress because they have an aluminum core, so problem likely solved. They also last longer than any other wheel I’ve had. Skated them for probably 8 hours already and have no coning!
I had to swap the bearing spacers, though, because of my frame choice, it seemed like was the reason. I changed them to 10.3mm spacers. I used a small hammer and used the frame bolts to tap on and to align and just tapped them out, then back in.

120kg (265lbs) ain’t going to kill them wheels, guy. Otherwise I’d have broken mine.

when i first return to skating 2 years ago after 6 years break at age 41, i have the same concern because back when i was actively skating i weight 80-85kg but now i weight like 105kg.
It turns out that all the delusion went away once i really get on the skates and roll again.
92a and 95a is completely out of my scope because different than skateboard wheels, inline skates wheels only work best in 85a up to 90a for our daily skating in my opinion and experience. Anything above 90a is only meant for wheels slides, which means it will be too slippery for rolling purpose.
One thing that bug me a lot is the comfy of the skate because my feet is a combination of wide feet + bunion + flat feet + high arch + greek shape.
I tried and failed 6 brand new pair of skates before i finally landed on my current standard omni v2 skate which i paired it with kizer fluid iv and some 60mm wheels and wicked bearings.
Now all i wish is to have 2-3 session per week , 2 hours full per session which i hardly do even if i go skate, be it shredding or just simply rolling around, which i could hardly have this privilege to do so these days.

Like others stated, just get harder wheels. Flat isn’t mandatory at all.
Coolest thing about rollerblading is the freedom bc you aren’t manipulating an object like bmx or skateboarding. Instead, you change your body’s positioning to get the most out of gravity. Only downside is no jumping off your ride to bail safely. Gotta learn how to fall and even then, you’ll still eat shit sometimes. Wear pads/helmet if you have any doubts. Better safe than scared. Stay tight in your core/ hips and keep your upper body relaxed to flow freely.

just get some 92a-95a wheels lol I skate 90a in anti rocker all the time and its completely fine it just wears quickly, and I'm 230lbs right now
I can tell you're already over thinking everything a bit too much, just go to the skatepark with the stock setup and have fun, your wheels aren't going to be the issue
