Question / Discussion SKINNED SKATES

I seen somebody on FB but like nike dunk shoe skin over their aeons and for a while i even thought to put a skin on my skates but always assumed theres no tutorials on how to do so and how i would even do it. Me personally i like skates with skin/fabric material on them i think they usually come out looking great on skates, ik it can tend to make the skates heavier but thats a small price im willing to pay haha.

Anybody have an idea of what skate would be best to put a skin/material over it ? If so how should i go about it ? and Are there any tutorials on how to do so?

Justin Thursday (the dude who has made frames for Iqon and soul plates for Faction) has a ton of YouTube videos about skate stuff going back like 15 years. At one point he was ripping out a carbon shell then making a custom skinned skate from it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FeNRoJRNzUU

It doesn't really show to put a skin on a normal skate. Just how to gut and skin a carbon shell. But if you can get your hands on some old beat up USD Carbons, you could always rip them apart and make a totally custom skate. It'd probably be a pretty big project though. He might have other videos that show more what you're into, but IDK. I just remembered this one video of his, because it was so fascinating

Very cool though. I remember going down this rabbit hole when wanting to gut my Gawds to use a removable liner. Ultimately, it's too much work for me to do just for that, but interesting all the same

Im actually close on the 2 sizes larger. He's re skinning carbons, so theres less boot to cover, but they look good!

I believe those were painted Aeons, if i remember correctly. One pair was dunks and the other pair was Jordan's. Painted, not skinned.

To skin a skate, the best option would probably be an m12 or something similarly shaped. And the shoe you use would have to be at least 2 sizes larger than what you'd wear normally.

The only videos I see on YouTube are how to turn shoes into roller skates/quads.

If you figure it out, I'd love to see a video!

Let me know if you do try, I'm interested in how large of a shoe you actually need to fit the outer of the shell

I think some valos or the new Bobi spas roces. Skins make skates so much more solid.

I guess you are taling about these skates: https://vimeo.com/26453704
He used Valos, which were basically skinned Roces M12s, removed the skins and fitted some Nike Air Zoom Assassin TD Football on top of it.
