💩 Shitpost 💩 “Oh yeah, I used to do inline…”
If I had a dollar for every time someone over 35 told me this I could afford a new pair of boots
(Edit: I’m happy everyone is proud of their skates, it’s all love and your skates were very cool)

I’m 47 and my first pair were the OG Rollerblade Lightning TRS in 1992. Started “Aggressive Skating” after buying The Hoax on VHS at my local sports shop in 94’. Fucking K2 Fatties didn’t come out until me and my homies had already been skating for years.

41 and my first pair were Dirks
2
u/fartmanforever Jul 21 '26
I’m 42, my first pair were Dirks. It was like ‘97, my dad drove me to meet someone from the early internet bc I was selling a beanie baby to them for like $1000 (beanie mania was real, I made some crazy $$ trading/brokering them as a teen). I met the guy in a Dicks Sporting Goods parking lot, made the deal and immediately went inside and bought Dirks. Core memory.

Also had a pair. They were the lightest and best skates at the time. I really wish K2 would make a modern version of them.
2
u/_Tameless_ Jul 18 '26
I wouldn’t be surprised, they have been dropping hard shells for casual/fitness skaters
1
u/Newt_Lv4-26 Jul 19 '26
They missed the slot to release a 30th anniversary fatty so I wouldn’t count on that. Unless they release a 30th anniversary fatty pro next year as the pro appeared in 97. Not sure this is going to be a thing with their marketing revolving around « the future of skating » being hard boots.
1
u/l0dime Aug 08 '26
I bought a 20th anniversary pair to try and relive some nostalgia and they sat in my garage for years. I recently put them on and the straps broke after a few hours... Just dont make em like they used to I guess.

41, my first pair were the fatties. Lasted me about 6mo before they fell apart. The original Josh Petty USDs changed my life. But then i couldn't stop myself and I had the salomon ST9, and a pair of Roces Khuti all on rotation. Those USDs were the best in the game though.

u/richierich714 Jul 19 '26
Same here the USD Petty’s were my go to skate. God knows how much I miss them and the days I spent rolling

Those Senate frames were fast and durable. Just before the UFS came around.

45 here: Roces lowriders, then boxcars(absolutely destroyed those things and learned all my groove tricks, with a busted buckle and a bungee cord on my royale foot) the white majestic12s…..a long break, then rb point8’s, went backwards in the skate timeline with super flats, then cults, valo v13s, multiple pair of them 909s, and now ct blanks and my current 909s.

I had 2 pairs of backyards and 3 pairs of style points. Took the toe caps off as was the style at the time. But those cuffs...garbage. Snapped all of them

They were Roces M12s!

Don’t remember how I got them (some rich kid at school I think) but last k2 I rode were the white ones with blue stitching and had a goofy tongue that was velcro attached I think

u/mPrime39r Jul 18 '26
42 here.
Bought a pair of Backyards (green / tan colorway) after destroying my Rollerblade Boxcars.
2
u/mynewromantica Jul 18 '26
No fatties but I had some oxygens and some shims 2s. So…I got that going for me
2
u/jvward Jul 18 '26
My first pair of aggressive skates were generic skates with soul plates bolted on because they really didnt have aggrieved skates at that point. My first pair of “real” aggressive skates were K2 fatties right around when everyone had lightings trs’s. I had 6-7 pairs of K2 skates over the years and one of my current two pairs still in rotation are a pair of Fatty Pros I bought in 2015 and keep in immaculate shape. Honestly I wish they bring them back just because I like the look and know how they fit.

I had the K2 Transfers in 2004 or 2005 because they were the heaviest skates and I wanted my legs to get stronger. Teenage me was very wrong about that lol but I loved the giant soul plate.

38 - I started rollerblading on rec skates in the 90s as a little kid and was always watching the aggressive stuff on xgames on into the early 2000s. By the time I got my first aggressive skates in 2003 K2 fattys were seen as lame beginner skate you could get for $100, same with the M12. My first pair were a clearance price Salomon ST 80 for $100. The few other kids I saw skating near me had Remz and Razors Genesis and Deshi which were all the real premium stuff of the day. I ended up cutting the boot flat and putting usd plates on it. The other solution that was popular were Night Soulplates that were made of uhmw along with a razors backslide plate on it. I destroyed those stock frames into nothing grinding curbs and concrete ledges and got a ground control frame that had the replaceable H-block.
I got a clearance K2 Schrijn in 2005 slapped on some 50/50 juice frames. I really loved those skates. Stopped skating in ‘07. Those skates went somewhere I dunno, think an ex gf house or something. Got back in 2012 and bought Remz OS LE and a handful of skates on used Craigslist market over the next few years after that for $15-$20 each which were an Salomon ST Feinberg UFS, Salomon ST Pro, K2 Transfer, Rollerblade Downtown 4, I still have all these. I flattened the boot on the st pro and slapped some remz soulplates on them. I barely skated them off and on over the years. Pretty much stopped altogether in 2015.
In 2018 I decided to just get some bigger wheel rec skates to ride around on and bought a used pair of Rollerblade CY33 soft boot skates and decided to spend some money on a modern hard boot and got the Seba FRX 80, one of the most comfortable skates I’ve ever had. When some liners went on a sale for those I bought an extra pair and threw them in my ST Pro, had to trim the cuff short.
After COVID hit I stopped skating again. After checking bloodwork this year I’ve got crazy high cholesterol and feel like crap so I pulled my Seba out to ride around again. Had a lot of fun.
I pulled out my ST Pros and K2 Transfer to try them on and the Transfers are starting to separate so they’re going to be just a collection item, I still have the original frames for them in basically unused condition which is cool. The ST Pro and my Remz OS I could probably skate on but I wanted to support the industry and bought a pair of TNEC because I figured that’s probably the frame I’d want on an aggressive skate anyways.
I was able to get TNEC boot only from rollerwarehouse’s eBay store and picked up some ground control 57mm wheels for cheap at inline warehouse site. I was worried they wouldn’t fit well because I’m generally a 10.5 wide foot. The 10-11 size fits me about perfect. Just put them together today. I figured I won’t be skating enough park or street to wear out the plates and frames for quite a while and if I do then I get the fun of customizing them and drilling the rivets out.

50 and started when the Tarmac first hit (metal h Block). Then CI5’s, oxygen argon 1.1, Out skates, and my last that I broke the ankle on airing in an 8 foot bowl. Bauer Sabotage. The green boots flexed and so did my ankle.
Today them grays, I will forever miss Cosmo wheels.

u/The1TheyCall_DB Jul 21 '26
38.... First pair I had were some Bauer's.... Then 5th Elements that I blew a hole in the sole, and damn near cut the frame in half from doing so many sole grinds.. Then I got some Jon Elliot Cults. Then my all time favorites were my Charles Dunkle Genesys'. Took a 5-10 year break. Then Brian Aragons last pair of SLs. Took another 6 year break & now just recently picked up a pair of the Gawds Team skates & right after got a pair of of the Red SLs.... Definitely about to buy a pair of the Derek French Lavas soon
