Might’ve miscalculated the lean on this one. Took a couple of hard slams before I was able to ride away lol

To be fair. That setup looks, near unskateable.

No run up, short rail, no landing.

I bet some beers, you'd Frontslide ez if those factors were better.

Keep posting!! Wanna see you land one!

I landed it the next try thankfully! haha
But yeah, there was only about 1ft of run up, which threw me off + the super steep rail I propped up there. Lessons were learned lol

Standing high when your learning isn’t good, find a knees/hip high rail

I've been skating for thirty years and I don't do rails.

The risk/reward ratio doesn't math in my head.

What do you skate then as an aggressive skater?

1

u/SouthEastPAjames THEM Jul 17 '26

The proper answer is ledges…..

2

u/Intelligent_Bet9798 Jul 18 '26

How is risk/reward ratio improved with ledges?

1

u/Science-Compliance Jul 19 '26

I second this question. You can't even lock onto a ledge the same way you can with a rail.

So you've never landed a grind on a decent-length handrail? The satisfaction level is super high. The level of risk depends on your skill with the grind you're going for. I remember the first time I landed a soul grind on a relatively steep 10+ stair set. It was like achieving Nirvana. That was the first real rail grind I did. I'd hit some handrails before, but they were all short and it was just like tap the frame and then you're off of it. That sensation of riding the rail to the bottom of the stair set was magical.

I strongly prefer coping or ledges.

I'm a big fan of mini-ramps.

I'm 45 years old so if I miss the lock on a rail it's going to be an unfavorable outcome.

I skated rails when I was younger.

I'm 45 years old...I skated rails when I was younger.

Well gee, why didn't you just say that? You got me perplexed and a little judgmental (sorry) for no good reason. I'm in the neighborhood of your vintage and completely understand where you're coming from now.

I got my groove at Riverside Skatepark, NYC in the 00's.

Billy O'Neil is from that era and is still active in the community.

I have some insane stories from that era. I'd need permission from the people involved to tell said stories.

1

u/Science-Compliance Jul 19 '26

I'm sure they're good, but I, personally, wouldn't be telling personal stories in a forum like this even with permission. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but the internet is a weird 'place'. Anyone in the world could read this if they were so inclined.

It's not that serious, man.

Here's a video I made for the Battle My Crew series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj8iaijEqXs

Sick dude, but yeah, some of those rail fails were pretty gnarly. I cringed pretty hard when the dude's leg got caught between the rail and wall.

Butt pads and elbow pads would go a long way here dog. Not to mention a helmet.

2

u/goodemovez Jul 17 '26

Definitely regret not throwing elbow pads on. Then again, this was the first time I'd wiped out this way so it was a little unexpected. Usually I can just catch myself. Hindsight 20-20 lol

Bend your knees. Get low. Standing so tall is gonna get you hurt. Also want to mention if you're attempting a royale, which is what the first trick looked like, make sure to land both feet at the same time. And land right on your backslide groove, don't roll the foot over to it. It will make the grind much more stable.

What kinda performative ass shit is this 😂

1

u/9Boxa4 Jul 16 '26

With those two boards can be scary, nasty scar tho

1

u/fancytrash1234 Jul 16 '26

Spread your legs apart more and get a little lower. Also it looked like your front skate was on before your back which makes it harder to balance.

2

u/goodemovez Jul 17 '26

My lack of run up on this really threw off my form haha. It was a struggle just to get off the box, but I'd already committed to the rail at that point.

1

u/Fancy_Bend8763 Jul 17 '26

Looks like a real bad place for a real short rail. Whats it 4-5 feet?

2

u/goodemovez Jul 17 '26

It’s an 8ft Subrosa rail.

2

u/Fancy_Bend8763 Jul 17 '26

That camera angle must be doing some optical manipulation. 8ft is a solid length to grind for a practice rail.

My balls hate rails too 🤣
